Polimerler, çok sayıda tekrar eden birimden oluşan zincirlerdir. Bu çalışmada polipropilen, polietilen ve poliasetilen polimer moleküllerinin, zincir uzunluğuna (n) bağlı olarak kimyasal reaktifliği ya da kararlılığı, global reaktiflik parametreleri ve bazı spektral sonuçlar yardımıyla incelenmiştir. Bu maksatla, molekülün optimizasyonları B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) seviyesinde yapıldıktan sonra global reaktiflik parametreleri yani; EHOMO, ELUMO, ELUMO - EHOMO enerji farkı, iyonlaşma enerjisi, elektron ilgisi, kimyasal potansiyel, elektronegatiflik, sertlik, yumuşaklık, elektrofilisiti ve nükleofilisiti indeks değerleri ve spektral sonuçlar yani; IR, 1H NMR - 13C NMR spektrumları ile moleküllerin reaktiflikleri yorumlandı. Molekülün reaktifliğinin zincir uzunluğuna bağlı olarak arttığı, fakat polipropilen ve polietilen için n=10 ve poliasetilen için n=18'den sonra hemen hemen sabit kaldığı görüldü. Poliasetilen için daha büyük zincir uzunluğu çıkması onun doymamış bir molekül olmasına atfedildi. Bulunmuş bu zincir uzunluklarının bu moleküllerin kimyasal özelliklerinin teorik olarak araştırılmasında yeterli olduğu kanaatine varıldı. Polymers are composed of a large number of repeating units, forming a chain. In the present study, the chemical reactivity or stabilities of polypropylene, polyethylene and polyacetylene polymer molecules were investigated depending on the number of unit (n) via global reactivity parameters and some spectral results, In this context, after the geometry optimizations of the molecules were carried out at B3LYP/6–311++G(d,p) level, their global reactivity parameters such as EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap between ELUMO and EHOMO, ionization potential, electron affinity, electronegativity, chemical potential,hardness, softness, electrophilicity and nucleophilicity, and their spectral results such as IR, 1H NMR - 13C NMR have been calculated and, commented. It was seen that their activities increase with the increasing number of unit (n) but, become nearly constant after n=10 for polypropylene and for polyethylene and n=18 for polyacetylene. The bigger unit number for polyacetylene was attributed to that it is an unsaturated molecule. We have concluded that these obtained unit numbers are theoretically enough to investigate the chemical properties of these polymers.
