Bu tez çalışması kapsamında çamur arıtımında azot ve fosfor geri kazanımı içeren bütüncül bir çamur arıtım yaklaşımı önerilmiştir. Bu yaklaşım dört aşamadan oluşmaktadır. Birinci aşamasında darbeli elektrik alan (PEF) yöntemi ile arıtma çamurunun ön arıtımı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ön arıtım işlemi ile hem çamur dezentegrasyonu gerçekleştirilmiş hem de çamurda bulunan azot ve fosfor sıvı faza aktarılmıştır. PEF ön arıtımı sonrası çamur katı ve sıvı faz olmak üzere iki faza ayrılmıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci aşamasında, bir önceki aşamada elde edilen sıvı fazdan magnezyum amonyum fosfat (MgNH4PO4•6H2O, MAP), yaygın olarak bilinen adı ile strüvit şeklinde azot ve fosfor geri kazanımı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Optimum strüvit çöktürme şartları, Yanıt Yüzey Metodolojisi olan Box-Behnken Tasarımı (BBT) kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Bağımsız değişkenler olarak X1=pH, X2=H3PO4 (mM), X3=MgCl2•6H2O (mM) seçilmiştir ve amonyum ve fosfat giderim verimlerine olan etkisi test edilmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada PEF sonrası geriye kalan katı fazın anaerobik çürüme performansı araştırılmıştır. Anaerobik çürüme performansı 25 günlük işletme süresi boyunca ve 35±1 °C sıcaklıkta yürütülmüştür. Son aşamada, strüvit çökeltisinin gübre özelliğini araştırmak için bir dizi laboratuvar ölçekli tarım deneyleri yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada ön arıtım için kullanılan reaktör özellikle çamur dezentegrasyon işleminde son zamanlarda kullanım alanı bulan darbeli elektrik alan (PEF) tekniği ile geliştirilmiş PEF reaktörüdür. Çalışmada tasarlanan PEF reaktörü 35 cm3 toplam hacme sahip paslanmaz çelikten imal edilmiş silindirik yapıdadır. Çalışmada PEF reaktörünün optimum işletim şartları 36 kV voltaj şiddeti, 6 mL/dk akış hızı ve çamurun kendi iletkenlik değeri olan 1,6 mS/cm olarak belirlenmiştir. Çamur PEF reaktöründen sadece bir kez geçirilmiştir. PEF tekniği kullanılarak çamur ön arıtımı yapıldığında sıvı fazda KOİ, TN ve TP artışı sırasıyla % 222, % 202 ve % 242 olarak elde edilmiştir. Strüvit çöktürmesi optimizasyonu BBT tarafından oluşturulan 17 teste dayalı denemeler ile yürütülmüştür. BBT ile proses optimizasyon işlemi yapılmış ve en iyi geri kazanım koşulları belirlenmiştir (1,2:1:1,2 Mg+2:NH4+:PO4-3 stokiyometrik oranında ve 8,5 pH değerinde). En iyi geri kazanım koşullarında en yüksek NH4-N ve PO4-P giderim verimleri sırasıyla % 89,83 ve % 80,3 olarak elde edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, Visual MINTEQ kullanılarak BBT tarafından oluşturulan 17 deneme testi için doygunluk indeks değerleri ve oluşabilecek türler belirlenmiştir. Optimum şartlar altında elde edilen strüvit çökeltisinde, X-ışını toz kırınımı (XRD) tekniği ve Rietveld analizi kombinasyonları kullanılarak faz belirleme işlemi yapılmıştır. Strüvit çökeltisi % 61,7 Strüvit ve % 38,8 Nahpoite bileşiğinden oluşmaktadır. Bu eşleşme için, örtüşme düzeyi (GOF) olarak bilinen kalite göstergesi olan indeks parametresi 1,67 olarak bulunmuştur. PEF sistemi kullanıldığında arıtma çamurundan Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb ve Zn gibi ağır metallerin sıvı faza geçişi sırasıyla % 25, % 6, % 15, % 8 ve % 6 şeklindedir. Oluşan strüvit ağır metal içerikleri Cr hariç limit değerinin altında ölçülmüştür. Cr ise 3 mg/kg olarak ölçülmüştür. Biyolojik metan potansiyeli (BMP) testinin sonuçlarına göre katı faz çamurunda kontrol çamuruna göre % 150 metan artışı ve 2,19 kat mL metan/ gr UAKM artışı elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca BMP test sonuçlarına göre katı fazda KOİ ve AKM giderim verimi sırasıyla % 50, % 34 olarak bulunmuştur. Tere (Lepidum sativum) ve roka (Eruca sativa) olmak üzere iki çabuk büyüyebilen sebze bahçe toprağına ekilmiş ve optimum şartlar altında elde edilen strüvit çökeltisinden farklı dozlarda gübre olarak uygulanmıştır. Seçilen bitkilerin strüvit eklenen saksılardaki çimlenmelerinin ve büyümelerinin strüvit eklenmeyen kontrol saksılarına göre büyüme oranları önemli ölçüde artış göstermiştir. Yapılan deneyler bahçe toprağına 3 gr ve 6 gr aşırı strüvit dozu uygulanması ile hem tere hem de roka bitkileri üzerinde strüvit çökeltisinde bulunan sodyum tuzlarından dolayı olumsuz etkilere sebep olduğunu göstermektedir. Saksı denemesinde strüvit eklenen topraktaki bitkilerin yaş ağırlıkları, kuru ağırlıkları, yaş boyları ve kök uzunlukları kontrol saksıları ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Artış oranları tere bitkisi için sırasıyla % 501, % 475, % 137, % 207 (0,5 gr strüvit miktarı için) olarak ve roka bitkisi için sırasıyla % 495, % 511, % 152, % 254 (1,5 gr strüvit miktarı için) olarak belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, tere bitkisi kullanılarak strüvit çökeltisinin fitotoksisite testi yapılmıştır. Fitotoksisite test sonuçlarına göre strüvit çökeltisindeki sodyum tuzlarının yüksek seyrelme oranlarında bitkiye zarar vermediği görülmüştür.
In this thesis, an integrated sludge treatment approach involving recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus was proposed. This approach consists of four stages. In the first stage, pretreatment of sludge was carry out by the pulsed electric field (PEF) method. Sludge disintegration was carried out by PEF pretreatment process and nitrogen and phosphorus in sludge were transferred to liquid phase. After PEF pretreatment sludge was separated into two phases as solid and liquid phase. In the second stage, nitrogen and phosphorus recovery was obtained in the form of magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate (MgNH4PO4•6H2O, MAP) commonly known as struvite from the liquid phase obtained in the previous step. Response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box–Behnken design (BBD) was applied to obtain the optimum struvite precipitation conditions. X1=pH, X2=H3PO4 (mM), X3=MgCl2•6H2O (mM) were selected as independent variables and tested the effect on removal efficiency of ammonium and phosphate. In the third stage, anaerobic digestion performance of solid phase obtained after PEF pretreatment was investigated. Anaerobic digestion performance of solid phase was operated at 25 days and 35±1 °C in temperature. In the last stage, a series of lab scale agriculture experiment tests were conducted to investigate the fertility of the struvite precipitate. The reactor used in this study has been improved with pulsed electric field (PEF) technique. In recent years, PEF technique has been used especially for sludge disintegration process. The PEF reactor designed in the study has a cylindrical structure made of stainless steel with a total volume of 35 cm3. In this study, optimum operating conditions were determined as 36 kV voltage, 6 mL/min flow rate and own conductivity value of sludge 1.6 mS/cm. The sludge was passed through the reactor only once. Increase of yield for COD, TN and TP were obtained % 222, % 202 ve % 242, respectively in liquid phase after sludge pretreatment using PEF technique. Optimization of struvite precipitation was conducted based upon 17 runs performed in BBD. The best recovery conditions were determined with BBD optimization (at stoichiometric ratio Mg+2:NH4+:PO4-3 =1.2:1:1.2 for 8.5 pH value). Maximum NH4-N and PO4-P removal efficiency were as % 89.83 and % 80.3 respectively in optimum recovery conditions. Besides, saturation index values and species were determined by using Visual MINTEQ in BBD for 17 runs. Phase fraction was determined by using combinations X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) in the struvite precipitation obtained under the optimum conditions. Phase amounts were determined using Rietveld analysis. The struvite precipitation was consist of % 61.7 Struvite and % 38.8 Nahpoite. For this match, index parameter which is known goodness of fit (GOF) was found as 1.67. Transition heavy metals as Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn from sludge to liquid phase were 25 %, 6 %, 15 %, 8 %, 6 %, respectively with PEF pretreatment. Heavy metals in the struvite precipitation were measured below detection limits except Cr. Cr also was measured quite low as 3 mg/kg. According to results of the biological methane potential (BMP) test, 150 % methane increase and 2.19 fold mL methane/gr VSS increase were obtained in solid phase sludge compared to control sludge. In addition, according to results of the biological methane potential test, COD and SS removal efficiency in the solid phase was 50 % and 34 %, respectively. Two quick growth vegetables, garden cress (Lepidum sativum) and rocket (Eruca sativa) were planted in garden soil and different doses the struvite precipitation obtained under the optimum conditions were applied as a fertilizer. The growth rate of germination and growth of selected plants in struvite added pots increased significantly compared to control strips without struvite added. The experiments also showed that over-dosing of 3 gr and 6 gr of struvite in the garden soil did cause negative problems with both garden cress and rocket due to sodium salts included in struvite precipitation. Wet weights, dry weights, wet heights and root lengths of plants in struvite added soil were compared with control pots. The increase rates of wet weights, dry weights, wet heights and root lengths of plants for garden cress were determined as 501 %, 475 %, 137 %, 207 % (for 0.5 gr struvite amount) respectively, and the increase rates for rocket % 495, % 511, % 152, % 254 (for 1.5 gr amount of struvite dose), respectively. Besides, phytotoxicity test was conducted for struvite precipitation using garden cress. Phytotoxicity test showed that sodium salts in struvite precipitation at high dilution rates did not harm the plant seed.
