Ateş, çocukluk çağında en sık karşılaşılan sorunlardan birisi olması yanı sıra aynı zamanda vücudun savunma mekanizmalarındandır. Çoğu zaman tedavi gereksizdir. Çok yüksek olmayan ateşin yararlı etkileri olduğunu destekleyen bulgular vardır. Fakat klinikte ateş etkenine göre gerektiğinde tedavi uygulanır. Ateşin hemen düşürülmesi yanlış bir uygulamadır. Aileler çocukların ateşini gereksiz yere agresif olarak tedavi etmektedir. Bu çalışmada ailelerinin ateş hakkındaki bilgi düzeyi ve ateş yüksekliğine karşı yaklaşımlarını saptamak ve ateş etiyolojisinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Bu çalışma 1 Şubat 2017 - 1 Şubat 2018 Isparta Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Çocuk Acil Polikliniğine ateş nedeniyle başvuran hastaların aileleri ile yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 300 aile ile anket yapılmıştır. Anket formu 27 sorudan oluşmuştur. İlk 20 soru ailelerin tanımlayıcı özellikleri ve ateşe yaklaşımlarını sorgulayan sorulardır. Son 7 soru acil serviste uygulanan tanı ve tedaviye yönelik sorulardır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan annelerin 204 (%68)'ü ev hanımı, 176 (%58,6)'sı 35 yaş altında, 147 (%49)'si lise mezunuydu. Ateşli çocukta annelerin en önemli korku nedeni % 82,6 oranında havale geçirmesine neden olmasıdır. Ailelerin %70,7'si 380 C üzerini ateş olarak kabul ettiğini, %68,7'si ateşi koltukaltından ölçtüğünü, %79,6'sı dijital termometre kullandığını, %55,3'ü ateş düşürücü olarak parasetamol kullandığını ifade etmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırmamızda geçtiğimiz yıllarda bu konuda, ülkemizde ve gelişmekte olan diğer ülkelerde yapılmış diğer çalışmalara göre, ailelerin ateş konusundaki bilinç seviyelerinde artış görülmektedir. Ancak halen ateş bilinci konusunda endişeleri ve eksiklikleri mevcuttur. Ailelerin bu konuda bilinçlendirilmesi, acil servislerin gereksiz meşgul edilmesini, gereksiz ilaç kullanımını ve endişelerini azaltacağı düşünülmektedir. Fever is one of the most common problems in childhood; it is also one of the defense mechanisms of the body. Most of the time, treatment is unnecessary. There are some findings that support some benefits of fever. However, in the clinic, treatment is applied according to the etiology of fever. Immediately reducing the fever is a wrong treatment. Families treat children's fever unnecessarily aggressively. The aim of this study was to determine the attitudes of families about fever and its' elevation and to determine the etiology of fever. Method: This study was carried out between 1 February 2017 - 1 February 2018 with the families of patients who applied to the emergency department of the pediatric of Isparta Suleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty Pediatric Emergency Clinic due to the fever. Survey was carried out with 300 families who agreed to participate in the study. The questionnaire form consisted of 27 questions. The first 20 questions were questions that query descriptive characteristics of families and their approaches to fever. The last seven questions were diagnostic and treatment questions which were obtained in emergency department. Results: 204/300 (68,0 %) of the mothers were housewives, 176/300 (58,6 %) of them were under 35 and 147/300 (49,0 %) of them were high school graduates. The most important cause of fear of the mothers in the feverish children were convulsions (82,6 %). 70,7 % of the families accepted it as the fever when it was above 38 degrees, 68,7 % said that they measured the fever under armpit, 79,6 % said they used digital thermometer and 55.3 % told that they used paracetamol as an antipyretic. Conclusion: According to other studies conducted in our country and other developing countries in recent years, the level of awareness of families about fever has increased. However, there are still concerns and deficiencies about consciousness of fever. It is thought that raising awareness of families about this issue will reduce unnecessary occupation of emergency services, unnecessary drug use and will reduce their concerns.
