Sigara kullanımı yıllardır tüm dünyada yer alan risk faktörlerinin en önemlisidir. Türkiye 1996 yılında 4207 Sayılı Kanun ile toplu yerlerde sigara kullanımı kısıtlanmıştır. Sonrasında daha etkin yasalara ihtiyacı duyulmuş ve 2008 yılında kanunda yapılan değişiklikler ile tüm kapalı alanlarda sigara kullanımı yasaklanarak "Dumansız Hava Sahası" kampanyası başlatılmıştır. Çocuklar ve gençler günümüzde tütün endüstrisinin hedef kitlesindedir. Ülkemiz de sahip olduğu genç nüfusu ile hedef konumundadır. Küresel Yetişkin Tütün Araştırma verilerine göre ülkemizde tütün kullanım oranı %27,1 ve 18 yaşından önce sigaraya başlama oranı %59; ortalama başlama yaşının 17 olduğu görülmüştür. Sigarayı bırakma oranı %27,2 ve 45 yaşından sonra bırakma oranlarında hızlı bir artış görülmektedir. Gençlerde bu oran %10'un altındadır. Bu veriler, sigaraya çoğunlukla üniversite ve öncesi dönemde başlandığını belirtmektedir. Bu dönemlerde sigaraya başlamayı kolaylaştıran unsurlar ve nedenleri ile bırakma davranışlarını tanımak engelleri belirlemek de yol gösterici olacaktır. Amacımız, öğrencilerin yeni tütün yasası ile ilgili bilgi seviyesi ölçmek, yasa hakkındaki görüşleri ve bu görüşlerini etkileyen faktörleri belirleyerek destek oranını araştırmak ve sigara kanununun etkilerinin ölçmektir. Bu amaçla Logit modeli kullanılmış ve SDÜ öğrencilerinden oluşan 660 kişiye yapılan anketlerden elde edilen veriler analiz edilerek model tahmin edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, modele dahil edilen değişkenlerin tamamının beklenen işarete sahip olduğu ve öğrencinin devam ettiği program, konaklanılan yer ile gelir değişkenleri dışındaki değişkenlerin tamamının istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, sigaraya başlamada en önemli etkenin stres ve sigarayı bırakma sebeplerinde ise sigaranın zararlarına daha fazla maruz kalmamak öne çıkmaktadır. 5727 Sayılı Kanun'dan sonra öğrencilerin %12'si sigara kullanımını azaltmıştır. Smoking has been one of the most important risk factors all around the world for many years. Smoking was restricted in public places in 1996 with Law Number 4207. Then, more effective laws were needed and "Smoke Free Zone" campaign was started by prohibiting smoking in all indoor spaces with amendments of law in 2008. Children and young people are now the target group of tobacco industry. Our country is also a target with its young population. According to Global Adult Tobacco Research data, it has been seen that rate of tobacco use in our country is 27,1% and rate of starting age of smoking before 18 is 59%, mean starting age is 17. Smoking cessation rate is 27,2% and there is a rapid increase in smoking cessation rates after the age of 45. For young people, this rate is below 10%. These data indicate that people start smoking mostly during university years and during the period before it. Recognition of the factors that make starting smoking easier in these periods and its reasons and quitting behaviors will be a guide for identifying the obstacles. Our aim is to measure students' knowledge level related to new tobacco law, to investigate support rate by determining their opinions about the law and the factors affecting their opinions and to measure effects of smoking law. Logit model has been used for this purpose and model has been estimated by analyzing data obtained from questionnaires made to 660 students consisting of SDU student. According to analysis results, it has been found that all variables included in the model have the sign which is expected and all variables outside of the program which is attended by the student, accommodation and income variables are statistically significant. In addition, the most important factor for starting smoking is stress and the prominent reason for smoking cessation is avoiding to be exposed to the harms of smoking any more. 12% of students reduced smoking after Law Number 5727.
