15. yüzyılın sonlarında başlayan sömürgecilik, yüzyıllar boyu dünyanın pek çok ülkesini etkisi altına almış uzun bir süreçtir. 20. Yüzyılda sona ermiş olsa da sömürgecilik, günümüzde halen gerek sömürgeci gerekse sömürülen ülke ve toplumları etkilemeye devam etmektedir. Bu bağlamda, Postkolonyalizm sömürgeci ideolojiye karşıt bir söylem ve direniş oluşturarak sömürgeciliğin her iki tarafta yol açtığı etkileri ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlar. 20. Yüzyılda sömürgecilik sonrası yazarlar genellikle kolonilerden çekilme ve bağımsızlık süreci sonrasında ülkelerin ve göçmenlerin yaşadığı problemleri ele alır. Fred D'Aguiar ve Andrea Levy gibi İngiltere'de doğan ve eğitim gören bazı yazarlar 'postkolonyal' yerine Siyahi İngiliz yazarlar olarak adlandırılsalar da, bu yazarların eserlerinde postkolonyal nitelikler ve direniş gözlemlemek mümkündür. Söz konusu yazarların romanlarından Feeding The Ghosts ve The Long Song, kölelik kurumu, köle ticareti, köleliğin yasaklanması ve özgürlük dönemlerini postkolonyal bir bakış açısıyla ele alan romanlardır. Bu çalışma D'Aguiar'ın Feeding The Ghosts ve Levy'nin The Long Song adlı romanlarında postkolonyal direnişin nasıl işlendiğini ortaya koymayı amaçlar. Köleliğe ve sömürgeci ideolojiye karşı direnişe zemin hazırlayan postkolonyal özellikler ve sömürgeciliğin romanlarda nasıl işlendiği analiz edilerek, yazarların bakış açısı ile benzer ve farklı yönleri postkolonyal teoriye göre ele alınmaktadır. Colonialism that began in the late fifteenth century was a long lasting continuum which affected most of the world throughout centuries. Although it came to an end in the twentieth century, it still affects the people and countries that experienced colonialism either as the colonizer or the colonized. Postcolonialism, in this sense, attempts to reveal the effects of colonialism on both sides through creating a counter discourse and resistance to colonial ideology. Postcolonial writers in the twentieth century usually deal with the problems of migrants and ex-colonized countries after liberation. Although some writers like Fred D'Aguiar and Andrea Levy who were born and educated in Britain are labelled as Black British writers instead of postcolonial, it is easy to observe postcolonial aspects and postcolonial resistance in their writings. Their novels, Feeding the Ghosts and The Long Song respectively, deal with the institution of slavery, slave trade, Abolition and Emancipation period from a postcolonial perspective. This study aims to reveal how postcolonial resistance is employed in Feeding The Ghosts by Fred D'Aguiar and The Long Song by Andrea Levy. It analyzes the representation of colonialism and postcolonial aspects paving the way for resistance in terms of colonial ideology as well as colonial slavery. The perspective of the writers and how they are similar to and different from each other are discussed in accordance with postcolonial theory.
