Çalışmada, çürütülmüş arıtma çamurunun hidrolizi üzerine alkali ve düşük sıcaklık termal arıtmanın etkileri araştırılmıştır. Sodyum hidroksit (NaOH) ve termal arıtma hidrolizi ile çürütülmüş çamurdan fosfat iyonu (PO43−), amonyum iyonu (NH4+) ve metal salınımlarını optimize etmek için Box–Behnken dizaynı uygulanmıştır. Çürütülmüş çamurun hidrolizi üzerine deneysel şartların etkisi (NaOH konsantrasyonu, sıvı/katı oranı ve sıcaklık) Box–Behnken metodu ile belirlenmiştir. Salınan PO43− miktarı, NaOH konsantrasyonuna bağlı olarak değişmiştir. PO43− salınımı, NaOH konsantrasyonunun artmasıyla önemli ölçüde artmıştır. 0,5 M'ın üzerindeki NaOH konsantrasyonu ve 50 °C'nin altındaki sıcaklık değerlerinde PO43− salınımlarında artış meydana gelmiştir. Sıvı/katı oranı 5/1 olduğunda, PO43− salınımı en yüksek konsantrasyonda olmuştur. En yüksek PO43− salınımı (3936 mg/L), 0,7 M NaOH konsantrasyonu, 5/1 sıvı/katı oranı ve 35 °C sıcaklık şartlarında elde edilmiştir. Bu şartlar altında NH4+ salınımı 1527,36 mg/L olmuştur. NH4 salınımları, NaOH konsantrasyonu artışı ve sıvı/katı oranının azalması ile artmıştır. En yüksek NH4+ salınımı (1880,82 mg/L), 0,7 M NaOH konsantrasyonu, 3/1 sıvı/katı oranı ve 50 °C sıcaklık şartlarında elde edilmiştir. Bu şartlar altında PO43− salınımı 2727 mg/L olmuştur. NaOH ve termal arıtma ile sadece PO43− ve NH4+ değil, aynı zamanda Ca, Na, K, Al, Fe ve Zn çözünmesi de gerçekleşmiştir. Ca, Al ve Zn salınımları sıcaklık ile artmıştır. Optimum nütrient ve metal salınımları 0,7 M NaOH konsantrasyonu, 5/1 sıvı/katı oranı ve 35 °C sıcaklıkta elde edilmiştir. Bu optimum şartlar altında, PO43− ve NH4 salınımları sırasıyla 3936 mg/L ve 1527,36 mg/L olmuştur. Ca, Na, K, Al, Fe ve Zn salınımları sırasıyla 65,30 mg/L, 11330 mg/L, 1259 mg/L, 207,70 mg/L, 61,20 mg/L ve 31,50 mg/L olmuştur. In this study, it was investigated the effects of alkaline and low temperature thermal treatments on hydrolysis of digested sewage sludge. Box–Behnken design was applied in the hydrolysis using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and thermal treatment for the optimization of the conditions that affect the phosphate ion (PO43−), ammonium ion (NH4+), and metals release from digested sludge. The effect of experimental conditions over the hydrolysis of digested sludge such as NaOH concentration, liquid/solid ratio and temperature was determined with Box–Behnken method. The quantity of PO43− released depended on the NaOH concentration. PO43− release significantly increased with increasing NaOH concentration. When NaOH concentration was above 0,5 M and temperature was below 50 °C, PO43− release increased. When the liquid/solid ratio was 5/1, PO43− release was at the highest concentration. The highest PO43− release (3936 mg/L) was found at a NaOH concentration of 0.7 M, liquid/solid ratio of 5/1 (mL/g), and a temperature of 35 °C. In these conditions, NH4+ release was 1527.36 mg/L. NH4+ release increased with increasing NaOH concentration and decreasing liquid/solid ratio. The highest NH4+ release (1880,82 mg/L) was found at a NaOH concentration of 0.7 M, liquid/solid ratio (mL/g) of 3/1, and temperature of 50 °C. In these conditions, PO43− release was 2727 mg/L. NaOH and thermal treatment dissolved not only PO43− and NH4+ but also Ca, K, Al, Fe, and Zn. The release of Ca, Al and Zn increased with temperature. An optimal condition for the release of nutrients and metals was obtained at a NaOH concentration of 0.7 M, a liquid/solid ratio of 5/1 (mL/g), and a temperature of 35 °C. In these optimal conditions, the concentrations of PO43− and NH4+ released were 3936 mg/L and 1527.36 mg/L, respectively. The concentrations of Ca, Na, K, Al, Fe, and Zn released were 65.30 mg/L, 11330 mg/L, 1259 mg/L, 207.70 mg/L, 61.20 mg/L and 31.50 mg/L.
