Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır (1878-1942) Osmanlı'nın son döneminde klâsik usûlde eğitim görmüş, bir yandan da o dönemdeki modernizm sancılarına bizzat tanık olup kafa yormuş önemli bir müfessirdir. Edindiği ilmî donanımı ve kendisini diğer âlimlerden ayıran fikrî niteliklerinden dolayı Diyanet Riyâseti tarafından alınan kararla Hak Dini Kur'ân Dili adlı tefsirini yazmıştır. Döneminin öne çıkan metodlarından olan bilimsel tefsir yöntemi, Elmalılı'nın tefsirinde de kendine has bir biçimde yer bulmaktadır. Ancak Elmalılı'nın yöntemi tek bir açıdan ele alınamayacak biçimde çok yönlüdür. Nitekim kendisi de dini ilimler kadar, felsefe, mantık, edebiyat, yabancı dil, hat ve tezhib sanatlarında dikkate değer bir düzeyde yetkindir. Elmalılı kevnî âyetleri yorumlarken klasik tefsir eserlerinden çokça yararlanmakta, bir taraftan da güncel bilimsel verilere yer vermektedir. Müfessir Kur'ân'ın bir bilim kaynağı, fen kitabı veya kendisi dışında herhangi bir şey olmadığını belirtmektedir. Kur'ân'ın mucizeliği benzersizdir. Tüm bilimsel açıklamaların amacı Allah'ın kudretine bir işaret göstermektir. Elmalılı'nın yöntemi tezin konusu olan kevnî âyetleri tefsir etmesi üzerinden incelendiğinde geleneksel ve modern tefsir yaklaşımları arasında itidalli bir çizgi izlediği söylenebilir. Muhammed Hamdi Yazir (1878-1942), who was educated in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, was a successful scholar who witnessed and pondered the pains of modernism at the time. Because of the scientific equipment he acquired and the intellectual characteristics that differentiated him from other scholars, he wrote his commentary entitled Hak Dini Kur'ân Dili with the decision taken by the Religious Affairs Order. One of the popular movements of the period, the scientific exegesis method also has its own place in the exegesis of Elmalili. However, Elmalili's method is so versatile that it cannot be addressed from a single angle. As a matter of fact, he is proficient in philosophy, logic, literature, foreign language, calligraphy and illumination arts as well as religious sciences. While interpreting cosmological verses, the commentator makes great use of the works of classical exegesis and also provides current scientific data. Mufassir states that the Qur'an is not a science source, a science book, or anything other than itself. The miracle of the Qur'an is unique. The purpose of all scientific explanations is to show a sign of Allah's power. When Elmalili's method is examined through his commentary on cosmological verses that are the subject of the thesis, it can be said that he follows a balanced line between traditional and modern tafsir approaches.
