Akarsu üzerindeki yapılar ve uygulamalar tasarlanırken akarsuyun akım tahmini büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu projelerin oluşturulması ve uygulama aşamasındaki yapılan harcama ve yatırımlar, akım tahmininin ne kadar önemli olduğunu bize bir kere daha göstermektedir. Bunun yanısıra, akımın tahmini özellikle taşkın kontrolü, suyun kullanımı, işletilmesi, yerleşim yerlerinin tespiti ve enerji üretimi gibi birçok konuda da büyük öneme sahiptir. Örneğin, taşkınlar önemli bir çevresel sorun olup her yıl büyük maddî hasarlar ve can kayıpları meydana getirmektedir. Nehirlerde olası taşkın durumlarında alınacak önlemler, hidroelektrik üretimi için rezervuar hacminin doğru belirlenmesi ve barajın projelendirilmesi için akım tahminlerinin hasas ve güvenli bir şekilde yapılması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada farklı hidrometeorolojik ve jeolojik özelliklere sahip iki bölgeden seçilen akım gözlem verileri kullanılarak ileri beslemeli yapay sinir ağları modeli yardımıyla akımlardaki girdi belirsizliği incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla, Bootstrap yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu yöntem ile birlikte, noktasal tahminler geliştirilerek her bir akım tahmini için %95 ve %99 güven düzeylerinde tahmin aralıkları belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada kullanılan günlük akım verileri 1960–2010 yılları arasında gözlenen ve E.İ.E tarafından işletilen 2009–Göksun Çayı Poskoflu akım istasyonuna ve 316-Simav Çayı Yahyaköy akım istasyonuna ait verilerdir. Çalışmada üç farklı model geliştirilmiştir. Birinci modelde adımsal regresyon analizi sonucunda elde edilen optimum girdi sayısı kullanılmıştır. İkinci ve üçüncü model için adımsal regreson analizi sonucunda elde edilen maksimum girdi sayısı kullanılmıştır. Ancak, ikinci ve üçüncü model için farklı gizli nöron sayıları kullanılmıştır. Yapay sinir ağları (YSA) modeli oluşturulurken gizli tabakadaki nöron sayıları tahminlerde etkili olmuştur. Gizli nöronlar 2 ile 10 arasında değişen 100 defa deneme yanılma yolu ile belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen akım tahminlerindeki girdi belirsizliği 1000 defa bootstrap örneklemesi yapılarak her bir veri için %95 ve %99 güven düzeylerinde tahmin aralıkları belirlenmiştir. Girdi belirsizliğini değerlendirmek için kapsama yüzdesi-percentage of coverage (POC), ortalama tahmin genişliği-average width (AW) ve ortalama bağıl genişlik-average relative length (ARIL) indeksleri kullanılmıştır. Her iki nehir için en iyi sonuçları veren en fazla girdili optimum nöronlu model olmuştur. Göksun Nehri için en iyi sonuç %99 güven düzeyinde 8-7-1 modelinden elde edilmiştir. Bu model için POC değeri %84, AW değeri 1,76 m3/sn ve ARIL değeri 1,85 olarak elde edilmiştir. Simav Nehri için en iyi sonuç %99 güven düzeyinde 7-6-1 modelinden elde edilmiştir. Bu model için POC değeri %83, AW değeri 13,73 m3/sn ve ARIL değeri 1,04 olarak elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca bu nehirlerde gözlenmiş pik ve düşük akım değerleri incelendiğinde Göksun Nehrinin 8-7-1 modeli (M2) için pik akım değerlerinde POC değeri %39 ve düşük akım değerlerinde POC değeri %99,7 olarak elde edilmiştir. Simav Nehrinin 7-6-1 modeli (M2) için pik akım değerlerinde POC değeri %42 ve düşük akım değerlerinde POC değeri %100 olarak elde edilmiştir. Pik akım değerlerinde kapsama yüzdesinin düşük çıkmasının nedeni modelin pik akım değerlerinde daha dar aralık vermesinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Ayrıca, farklı sayıdaki bootstrap örneklemesinin belirsizlik üzerine etkisi de incelenmiştir. Örnekleme sayısı artırıldığında model performansında iyileşme görülmemiştir. Modellerin performansları hidrolojik çerçevede tartışılmıştır. Bu tez çalışmasında elde edilen sonuçların, yapay sinir ağları kullanılarak elde edilen tahminlerdeki belirsizliklerin analizinde ülkemizdeki araştırmacılara fayda sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Streamflow forecasting is of great importance for designing hydraulic structures. Costs and investments during the designing and implementation of these projects show us once again how vital the forecast is. Besides, streamflow forecasting is essential, especially for flood control, water use and operation, determination of settlements and energy generation. For instance, floods are a major environmental problem, causing significant financial damage and loss of life each year. Measures to be taken in case of possible floods in rivers, accurate determination of reservoir volume for hydroelectric power generation and dam design requires accurate and reliable flow estimates. In this study, input uncertainty in streamflows was investigated with the help of feed-forward neural networks model using observed data selected from two regions with different hydrometeorological and geological characteristics. For this purpose, the Bootstrap method was used. With this method, point estimates were obtained and forecasting intervals at 95% and 99% confidence intervals for each streamflow estimate were generated. The daily streamflow data used in this study are the data of the Goksun River Poskoflu station (number of the station is 2009) and the Simav River Yahyakoy station (number of the station is 316), which were observed during the period 1960–2010. In this study, three different models were developed. For the first model, the optimum number of inputs obtained by using stepwise regression analysis. The maximum number of inputs obtained from the stepwise regression analysis was used for the second and third models. However, the different number of hidden neurons was used for these models. The number of hidden neurons was determined by a trial- and- error procedure by varying the number from 2 to 10 for 100 runs. The input uncertainty was determined by using 1000 bootstrap samples for each streamflow estimates at 95% and 99% confidence levels. To evaluate the performances of the models for input uncertainty, percentage of coverage (POC), average width (AW), and average relative length (ARIL) indices were used. The best performances were obtained for the models that have the highest number of input parameters with the optimal number of hidden neurons for each river. The best result for the Goksun River was obtained from the 8-7-1 model at a 99% confidence interval. For this model, the POC, AW, and ARIL values were found as 84%, 1.76 m3/sn, and 1.85, respectively. Further, the best result for the Simav River was obtained from the 7-6-1 model at a 99% confidence level. For this model, the POC, AW, and ARIL values were found as 83%, 13.73 m3/sn, and 1.04, respectively. Also, when the observed peak and low flow values of these rivers were analysed, POC value was found as 39% for the peak flow values and 99.7% for the low flow values for the best model for Goksun River. For the best model of the Simav River, the POC value was 42% for the peak flow values and 100% for the low flow values. The reason for the low percentage of coverage in peak streamflow values is due to the narrower interval of the model's peak streamflow values. In addition, the effect of the different numbers of bootstrap sampling on uncertainty was also investigated. There was no improvement in the model performance when the sampling number was increased. The performances of the models were discussed in a hydrological framework. It is thought that the results obtained in this thesis will be useful for the researchers in our country in the analysis of uncertainties in the estimations that obtained from artificial neural networks.
