Bu çalışmada, 7. sınıf hafif düzeyde zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilere eğitsel oyuncak ve oyun yöntemiyle periyodik cetveldeki ilk 18 elementin sembolleriyle öğretiminin etkililiği ve bu yöntemin kullanışlılığının tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden uygulamaya dayalı eylem araştırması yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmacının öğretmen olarak görev yaptığı okulda hafif düzeyde zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilerin öğrenme durumlarında aksaklıkların olması ve araştırmacının bu öğrencilerin konuyu daha kolay öğrenmesi için çözüm yolları bulmak istemesi nedeniyle eylem araştırması yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubu, Sav Ortaokulu 7. sınıfta öğrenim gören RAM tarafından hafif düzeyde zihinsel yetersizliği raporu verilmiş dört erkek öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada araştırmacı tarafından "Saf Madde ve Karışımlar" ünitesi ve öğrencilerin zihinsel yetersizlikleri dikkate alınarak 5E modeline göre eğitsel oyun etkinlikleri ile zenginleştirilmiş beş haftalık öğretim planları, nitel veri toplama araçları olarak başarı testi, görüşme, gözlem ve çalışma yaprakları geliştirilmiştir. Veri toplama araçlarından Başarı Testi ön test ve son test olmak üzere iki defa uygulanmış, ön test olarak uygulanması öğrencilerin başlangıç düzeylerini belirlemek, son test olarak uygulanması ise öğretimin ne derece yararlı olduğunu ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada iki farklı türde görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yapılandırılmış görüşme olarak gerçekleştirilen Öğrenme Düzeyi Belirleme Formu öğretim planı uygulanmadan önce öğrencilerin hazırbulunuşluğunu belirlemek, öğretim planı uygulandıktan sonra ise kavrama düzeylerini tespit etmek, hangi kavram ve konuların anlaşılmasında zorluk yaşadığını ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla uygulanmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme olarak gerçekleştirilen Sosyal Geçerlilik Formu ise kazanımların neden öğrenilemediğini, öğrencilerin öğrenmelerini etkileyen durumlarını, eğitsel oyuncak ve oyun yönteminin kullanılmasının öğrenciye neler hissettirdiğini ortaya çıkarmak amacıylahazırlanarak öğretim planı uygulandıktan sonra yapılmıştır. Araştırmacı tarafından çalışma yapraklarının ev ödevi olarak verilmesindeki ve gözlem yapılmasındaki amaç ise mevcut öğretim hakkında bilgi edinmek, öğrenememe durumu olan öğrencilerin öğrenememe nedenlerini belirlemek, tasarlanan materyaller hakkında öğrencilerden bilgi almak, birebir yapılmış olan görüşmelerin geçerliğini arttırmak ve araştırma ile elde edilecek olan bulguları daha ayrıntılı olarak betimleyip desteklemektir. Çalışmadan elde edilecek olan verileri düzenli ve üzerinde yorum yapılmış şekilde betimlemek, neden-sonuç ilişkilerini irdelemek ve olası sonuçlara ulaşmak amacıyla çalışmada betimsel analiz yaklaşımı ile mevcut verileri özetleyerek karşılaştıran içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada başarı testi ön test ve son test sonuçlarının karşılaştırılması ve gerçek başarının belirlenmesi için normalleştirilmiş başarı formülü kullanılarak her bir öğrenci için normalleştirilmiş başarı değeri hesaplanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, eğitsel oyuncak ve oyunların hafif düzeyde zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilerin başarıları üzerinde pozitif bir etki yarattığı, tutumlarını olumlu yönde değiştirdiği, bunun yanında öğrencilerin derslerden zevk aldığı, dikkatlerini çektiği, öğrencileri meraklandırdığı, öğrenciler arasında rekabet yaratarak öğrenmeyi hızlandırdığı, güdülenmelerini sağladığı böylece devamsızlıklarını azalttığı gibi yararlar sağladığı da tespit edilmiştir. In this study, it has been aimed to determine the effectiveness and usefulness of teaching the first 18 elements (with their symbols) in the periodic table with educational toy and game method to the 7th grade students with intellectual disability. The study has been fulfilled with the action research method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The action research method has been used due to the fact that the students with intellectual disabilityin the school where the researcher works as a teacher had disruptions in their learning situations and the researcher wanted to find solutions for these students to learn the subject more easily. The study group has been consisted of four male students who has mild mental disability report given by RAM, who studies at 7th grade in Sav Middle School. In the study, the five-week teaching plans enriched with educational game activities according to the 5E model, as qualitative data collection tools, Achievement Test, interview, observation and worksheets were developed with taking the "Pure Substances and Mixtures" unit and intellectual disability of students into consideration by the researcher. The achievement test, which is one of the data collection tools, was applied twice as a pre-test and a post-test, its application has been aimed as a pre-test to determine the beginner level of the students, and as a post-test to reveal how useful the teaching was. Two different types of interviews have been conducted in the study. Learning Level Determination Form which was performed as a structured interview, was practiced to determine the readiness of students before applying the teaching plan, to determine the levels of comprehension after the teaching plan was applied, and to reveal which concepts and topics they had difficulty in understanding. Social Validity Form, which was conducted as a semi-structured interview, has been prepared to reveal why the learning outcomes could not be learned, the conditions affecting learning of the students, how the use of the educational toy and the game method made the students feel, has been made after the teaching plan was applied. The purpose of the worksheets given as homework by the researcher and observing them is to obtain information about the current education to determine the reasons of not learning for the students who were in not learning case, to get information from the students about the designed materials, to increase the validity of one to one interviews and to describe in details and support the findings to be obtained through the research. In order to describe the data obtained from the study in a regular and commented manner, to examine the cause-effect relations and to reach possible results, content analysis has been used in the study, which summarizes the existing data with the descriptive analysis approach. In the study, the normalized success value was calculated for each student by using the normalized success Formula to compare the Pretest and Posttest results and determine the real success. As a result of the study, educational toys and games have a positive effect on the success of students with intellectual disability, It has been also determined that they have some benefits like they have changed their attitudes in a positive way, besides, they have enjoyed the lessons, they attracted their attention, made students curious, accelerated learning by creating competition among the students thusreducing their nonattendance.
