Son yıllarda gelişen yeni tedavi yöntemleri ile hasta kooperasyon ihtiyacı en aza indirilmeye çalışılsa da, hasta kooperasyonu hala her ortodontistin sağlaması gereken en önemli kriterdir. Yaş ve gelişimsel evreye göre bireylerin psikolojileri ve ortodontik tedavi motivasyonları değişiklik göstermektedir. Ortodontist bu evreleri dikkate alarak tedavi seçeneklerini değerlendirmelidir. Hasta kooperasyonu, tedavi sürecindeki önemli faktörlerden bir diğeridir ve bu kooperasyon üzerinde hasta-hekim ilişkisinin anlamlı etkileri bulunmaktadır. Sosyal çevrede fiziksel çekicilik, bireylerin gelişimsel evreleri, hekimlerin rolü, bireylerin emosyonel ve bilişsel gelişimi gibi farklı basamaklardan geçmektedir. Prospektif olarak planlanan bu çalışmanın amacı, demografik ve psikolojik değişkenlerin, ortodontik tedavide Sınıf III tedavide 3 farklı apareyle hasta kooperasyonunun ne derece ilişkili olabileceğinin belirlenmesidir. Çalışma kapsamında, hasta kooperasyonunun cinsiyetler arasındaki farkı incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma 9-17 yasları arasındaki 161 hasta ile yapılmıştır. Ortodontik tedavi esnasında hastalar ve ebeveynlerine anket formları doldurtulmuştur. Kullanılan anketler, ortodontik tedavi kooperasyonu ile ilgili literatürde araştırmacılar tarafından günümüze kadar kullanılan ölçümler ve sosyal ve demografik bilgileri içeren birtakım sorulardan oluşmaktadır. Psikolojik ölçümler, Ortodontik Davranış İncelemesi ve Ortodontik Kontrol Odağı Ölçeği'ni kapsamaktadır. Hastaların objektif ve subjektif tedavi kooperasyonu, araştırmacı tarafından Ortodontik Hasta Kooperasyon Ölçeği ile (Orthodontic Patient Cooperation Scale-Opcs) belirlenmiş, çalışmalarda Sınıf III hastalar ele alınarak kooperasyonları değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Sınıf III tedavileri için birçok yaklaşım vardır. Burada en çok hasta kooperasyonu ihtiyacı olan gruplardan yalnızca üç farklı aparey seçilip değerlendirilmiştir. Kooperasyonu etkileyen parametrelerin belirlenmesi amacıyla, saptanan parametrelerin kooperasyon degerleri ile ilişkileri incelenmiştir. Analizlerde ölçek puanlarının demografik özellikler ve kullanılan apareylere göre karşılaştırılması için Student t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, cinsiyetlere göre tutum farklılığı olduğunu, değişik apareylere göre tutum puanlarının farklı olduğunu ve ortodontik tedavide kooperasyonun öneminin hem hastalar hem de aileleri tarafından anlaşıldığını göstermektedir. Ancak, maloklüzyonda hasta kooperasyonunu ölçmek için kullanılan ölçeklerin henüz yeterli sonuçlar vermedikleri ve farklı çalışmalarda yeni ölçeklerin geliştirilebileceği anlaşılmaktadır.

Although the need for patient cooperation has been tried to be minimized with the new treatment methods developed in recent years, patient cooperation is still the most important criterion that every orthodontist should provide. Psychology and orthodontic treatment motivation of individuals vary according to age and developmental stage. The orthodontist should consider these stages and evaluate the treatment options. Patient cooperation is another important factor in the treatment process and the patient-physician relationship has significant effects on this cooperation. Physical attraction in the social environment passes through different stages such as the developmental stages of individuals, the role of physicians, and the emotional and cognitive development of individuals. It is known that patient cooperation plays a very important role in orthodontic treatments and it is a factor that greatly affects patient behavior. Orthodontists often have cooperation problems with the patient and their family, and they spend most of their clinical hours solving these problems. That is why many studies have been published over the years that allow a new patient to predict the expected cooperation in the future. The aim of this prospectively designed study is to determine to what extent demographic and psychological variables are related to patient cooperation with 3 different appliances in Class III treatment in orthodontic treatment. Within the scope of the study, the difference of patient cooperation between genders was examined. This study was conducted with 161 patients aged 9-17 years. Questionnaire forms were filled out by the patients and their parents during orthodontic treatment. The questionnaires used consist of a number of questions including measurements, and social and demographic information used by researchers in the literature related to orthodontic treatment cooperation. It includes psychological measurements, Orthodontic Behavior Examination and Orthodontic Locus of Control Scale. The objective and subjective treatment cooperation of the patients was determined by the researcher using the Orthodontic Patient Cooperation Scale (OPCS), and their cooperation was tried to be evaluated by considering Class III patients in studies. There are many approaches to Class III treatments. Here, only three different appliances were selected and evaluated from the groups that most need patient cooperation. In order to determine the parameters affecting the cooperation, the relations of the determined parameters with the cooperation values were examined. In the analyses, Student t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to compare the cooperation scores according to demographical characteristics and different appliances. The results show that there is an attitude difference according to genders, attitude scores differ according to different appliances, and the importance of cooperation in orthodontic treatment is understood by both patients and their parents. However, it is understood that the scales used to measure the patient cooperation in malocclusion have not yet yielded sufficient results and new scales can be developed in different studies.
