Bertolt Brecht'in, Marksist diyalektik dünya görüşünün ışığında 1920'li yıllardan itibaren Aristotelesçi dram yapısının çizgisindeki geleneksel burjuva tiyatrosunun antitezi olarak temellerini attığı epik tiyatro estetiği, 1960'lı yıllarda Türk tiyatro dünyasına da adım atar. İdeolojik içeriği ve sahne-seyirci ilişkisine yeni bir boyut getiren biçimiyle 1960'lar Türkiye'sinin toplumsal, ekonomik ve politik açıdan hareketli ortamına oldukça uygun düşen epik tiyatro, kısa sürede Türk oyun yazarlarının ilgi odağı hâline gelir. Modern Türk Tiyatrosunda Epik'in Görünümü (1960-1980) başlığını taşıyan bu tez çalışmasının amacı, epik tiyatro estetiğinin Türk tiyatrosunu ne derecede etkilediğini, bu çizgide yürüyen oyun yazarlarının bu estetikten neden, nasıl yararlandığını ve ne ölçüde başarılı olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın Epik Tiyatro başlıklı birinci bölümü, tümüyle Brecht'e ve onun kuramını ortaya koyup uygulamasını yaptığı epik tiyatro anlayışına ayrılmıştır. Modern Türk Edebiyatında Epik Tiyatro (1960-1980) başlıklı ikinci bölümde önce Türk tiyatro yazınında Brecht'in ve kuramının tanınırlık kazandığı dönem üzerinde durulmuş, sonra 1960-1980 yılları arasında kaleme alınan ve epik bir görünüm sergilediği tespit edilen yirmi bir eserin çeşitli yönleriyle tanıtımına yönelik bir çalışma yapılmıştır. Modern Türk Tiyatrosunda Epik Biçim (1960-1980) başlıklı üçüncü bölümde ise epik tiyatroya dair ilk bölümde çizilen teorik çerçevenin belirlenen eserler üzerinde uygulanması çabası içinde olunmuştur. Epik tiyatro anlayışından hareketle belirlenen çeşitli başlıklar altında incelenen eserlerin geleneksel Türk tiyatrosu ile kurdukları bağ açısından da analizine çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, epik tiyatro anlayışının Türk tiyatro yazınının 1960-1980 yılları arasında oyun yazarları üzerinde geniş bir etkiye sahip olduğu ve sanatsal üretimlerini belirgin olarak bu etki altında gerçekleştiren yazarların genel olarak Brecht'in estetiğini özgün bir yaklaşımla değerlendirerek çağdaş bir ulusal tiyatro inşasına çabaladıkları ortaya konmuştur. The aesthetics of epic theatre, which was formed by Bertolt Brecht in the light of the Marxist dialectical worldview from the 1920s as the antithesis of the traditional bourgeois theatre that's in the lines of the Aristotelian drama structure, also stepped into the Turkish theatre world in the 1960s. Epic theatre, which quite suited to the socially, economically and politically active environment of Turkey in the 1960s, becomes the center of attention of Turkish playwrights in a short time with its ideological content and format that brings a new dimension to the scene-audience relationship. The aim of this thesis study titled The Appearance of Epic in Modern Turkish Theatre (1960-1980) is to reveal to what degree the aesthetics of epic theatre affects Turkish theatre, the playwrights walking in this line, why and how they benefit from this aesthetics and how successful they are. The first part of the study, entitled Epic Theatre, is devoted entirely to Brecht and epic theatre that he put forward its theory and applied. In the second part, entitled Epic Theatre in Modern Turkish Literature (1960-1980), firstly, the period when Brecht and his theory gained recognition in Turkish drama is emphasized. Then, a study is carried out for the promotion of twenty one works that were written in 1960-1980 period and determined to have an epic appearance, in various aspects. In the third part, entitled Epic Form in Modern Turkish Theatre (1960-1980), an effort is made to apply the theoretical framework drawn in the first part on epic theatre on the determined works. The works analysed under various titles which are determined with the understanding of epic theatre, are also tried to analyse in terms of their connection with the traditional Turkish theatre. As a result of the study, it is revealed that epic theatre understanding had a wide impact on the playwrights of the Turkish drama in the 1960-1980 period and the authors who made their artistic productions distinctly under this influence, generally evaluated Brecht's aesthetics with an original approach and tried to build a contemporary national theatre.
