2019 yılında ortaya çıkan ve dünya çapında ölümlere sebep olan corona virüs hayatın her alanında etkili olmuş ve toplumsal kısıtlamalara yol açmıştır. Maske kullanmak gibi ya da marketten aldığımız her şeyi dezenfekte etmek gibi daha önceden pek de aşina olmadığımız alışkanlıklar edinmemizi gerektirmiştir. Sokağa çıkma kısıtlamaları, temasın minimize edilmesi, sınır kapılarının kapatılması ve seyahat kısıtlamalarının getirilmesi alınan önlemlerden sadece bazılarıdır. Bu durum tabi ki eğitimde de köklü değişikliler yapılmasına sebep olmuştur. Sadece Türkiye'de değil dünya genelinde virüsün yayılım hızını yavaşlatmak ve potansiyel taşıyıcı olan çocukları birbirlerinden uzak tutmayı başarabilmek için uzaktan eğitime hızlı bir geçiş yapılmış ve daha önce sadece destekleyici bir eğitim olarak karşımıza çıkan uzaktan eğitim belli bir süre için tek alternatif haline gelmiştir. Bazı ülkeler uzaktan eğitimi uzun yıllardır kullanıyor olsa da çoğu ülke için durum bunun aksidir. Bu sebeple herhangi bir hazırlık yapılamadan bu sürece adapte olmak zorunda kalmak hem öğrenciler hem de öğretmenler için yıkıcı etkiler oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışma Türkiye'nin farklı illerinde çalışan ve uzaktan eğitime dahil olmuş İngilizce öğretmenlerinin uzaktan eğitime dair genel algılarını görmek, uzaktan eğitimin tükenmişlik düzeylerini ve mesleki yeterlilik algılarını ne oranda etkilediğini saptamak için yapılmıştır. Araştırmacı bu soruları yanıtlayabilmek için 34 soruluk bir anket hazırlanmış ve anketi hazırlarken Maslach'ın Tükenmişlik Envanteri'nden ve 2006 ve 2017 yıllarında Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından yayınlanan öğretmen yeterlilikleri listelerinden yararlanmıştır. Anket çalışmasına 172 İngilizce öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırmacı ayrıca bir röportaj çalışması da yürütmüştür. Görüşmeye de 16 öğretmen katılmıştır. Anket ve röportaj verilerinin ışığında araştırmacı bu süreçte öğretmenlerin tükenmişlik seviyelerinin oldukça yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşmıştır. Mesleki yeterlilik bazında bakıldığındaysa katılımcıların pek çoğunun kendisini yeterli gördüğü fakat sürecin yönetiminin zor olduğu fikrinde olduğu sonucu elde edilmiştir. Katılan öğretmenler ayrıca uzaktan eğitimin tek başına yeterli olmadığını, öğrencinin istek ve ihtiyaçlarının farkında olması gerektiğini bunun da belli bir eğitimden geçmeden sağlanamayacağını belirtmişlerdir. The corona virus, which emerged in 2019 and caused deaths worldwide, has been effective in all areas of life and has led to social restrictions. It required us to acquire habits that we were not familiar with before, such as using a mask or disinfecting everything we bought from the market. Curfews, minimizing contact, closing border gates and introducing travel restrictions are just some of the measures taken. This, of course, has led to radical changes in education. In order to slow down the spread of the virus, not only in Turkey, but throughout the world, and to succeed in keeping children who are potential carriers away from each other, a rapid transition has been made to distance education, which has become the only alternative for a certain period of time. Although some countries have been using distance education for many years, for most countries the situation is the opposite. For this reason, having to adapt to this process without any preparation has created devastating effects for both students and teachers. This study was carried out to see the general perceptions of English teachers working in different cities of Turkey, and to determine to what extent distance education affects their burnout levels and perceptions of professional competence. In order to answer these questions, a questionnaire was developed by using Maslach's Burnout Inventory, and effective teacher's qualifications guideline published by Ministry of National Education in 2006 and 2017.172 English teachers participated in the questionnaire. A semi-structured interview study was conducted as well. 16 teachers participated in the interview study. In the light of the questionnaire and interview data, the researcher concluded that the burnout levels of the teachers were quite high in this process. On the basis of professional competence, it was found that most of the participants considered themselves sufficient, but that the management of the process was difficult. Both the teachers who participated in the survey and the teachers who participated in the interview agreed that distance education is very useful as a supportive education type, but it is not sufficient without face-to-face education.
