Araştırmanın amacı, ortaöğretim matematik öğretmenlerinin perspektifinden matematik öğretiminde üst düzey düşünme becerilerinin nasıl geliştirileceğinin incelenmesidir. Araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından durum çalışmasına göre yürütülmüştür. Araştırma grubunu amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden maksimum çeşitlilik ve ölçüt örnekleme yöntemleri ile belirlenen resmi ortaöğretim kurumlarında görev yapan 28 matematik öğretmeni oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme soruları ve araştırmacı günlüğü kullanılmıştır. Veriler betimsel ve içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde MAXQDA 2020 programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre; Matematik öğretmenleri üst düzey düşünmeyi eleştirel yaklaşım, sorunun üstesinde gelme, problemlere farklı çözüm yolları geliştirme olarak ifade etmektedir. Öğrencilerdeki üst düzey düşünme becerilerinin seviyesi, okul türlerine göre değişmekle beraber, öğrencilerin çoğunluğunda alt seviyelerde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Matematik öğretmenlerinin öğrencilerdeki üst düzey düşünme becerilerini geliştirebilmek için derslerinde sınıf içi etkinlikler, günlük yaşama entegre ve öğrenci ile etkileşim gibi çeşitli uygulamalara yer verdikleri, ancak söz konusu becerileri yeterince geliştiremediklerini düşündükleri ortaya çıkmaktadır. Matematik öğretmenleri öğrencilerdeki üst düzey düşünme beceri seviyelerinin alt seviyelerde olmasının ve derslerde yeterince geliştirilememesinin sebeplerini öğrenci, öğretmen, sistemsel ve toplum/aile açısından ortaya koymaktadırlar. Sebepler olarak matematik öğretmenlerinin matematik derslerinde sınav odaklı ders işlemesi, sınava bağlı bir sistemin var olması, ailelerin bu konudaki bilinçsizliği, öğrencilerdeki temel bilgi eksikliği, kitap okumama ve özgüven eksikliği ön plana çıkmaktadır. Araştırmada matematik öğretiminde üst düzey düşünme becerilerinin geliştirilmesi için öğrenci, öğretmen, toplum/aile, matematik öğretim süreci, eğitim politikasına yönelik olarak neler yapılabileceğine dair sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Ortaöğretim matematik öğretmenlerinin perspektifinden yapılan bu araştırmanın sınıf öğretmenleri ve ortaokul matematik öğretmenleri üzerinde de yapılması önerilebilir. The aim of the research is to examine how to develop higher-order thinking skills in mathematics teaching. The research was carried out according to the case study of one of the qualitative research approaches. The study group consisted of 28 mathematics teachers working in public secondary education institutions, who were determined by the maximum diversity and criterion sampling methods, which are among the purposive sampling methods. Semi-structured interview questions and researcher's diary were used as data collection tools in the study. The data were analyzed with descriptive and content analysis. According to the findings obtained from the research; Mathematics teachers express high-level thinking as critical approach, overcoming the problem, and different solutions. Although the level of high-level thinking skills in students varies according to school types, it has been determined that the majority of students are at lower levels. It is revealed that mathematics teachers include various applications in their lessons in order to develop their high-level thinking skills, but they think that they cannot develop these skills sufficiently. Mathematics teachers reveal the reasons why students' high-level thinking skills are at low levels and cannot be adequately developed in lessons in terms of students, teachers, systems and society/family. The reasons are the exam-oriented teaching of mathematics teachers in mathematics lessons, the existence of an exam-based system, the ignorance of families on this issue, the lack of basic knowledge in students, the lack of reading books and the lack of self-confidence. In the research, results were obtained on what can be done for students, teachers, society/family, mathematics teaching process and education policy in order to develop high-level thinking skills in mathematics teaching. It can be suggested that this research, made from the perspective of secondary school mathematics teachers, should be conducted on primary school teachers and secondary school mathematics teachers.
