Bu tez çalışmasında, içten yanmalı motorlu araçlarda egzoz gazları ile atmosfere atılan ısı enerjisinin, faz dönüşüm malzemesi (FDM) yardımıyla depolandığı gizli ısı depolama sistemin ısı deşarj süreci üzerine bir dizi deneysel çalışma yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada, FDM olarak ticari olarak RT55 kodu ile tanımlanan parafin mumu kullanılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmalarda, FDM kabında depolanan ısı enerjisi tipik bir sedan aracın soğukta çalıştırma koşullarında kabin içinin ısıtılması amacıyla kullanılmıştır. FDM yardımlı kabın içi ısıtma sisteminde, biri içerisinde FDM malzemesinin depolandığı diğeri aracın kabin içi ısıtmasında kullanılan 2 adet ısı eşanjöründen oluşan kapalı devre bir sıvı sirkülasyon sistemi kullanılmıştır. Isı eşanjörleri arasında aracı akışkan bir DC su pompası yardımıyla devir-daim ettirilmiştir. FDM kabı içerisinde iç içe geçmiş 3 katmandan oluşan serpantin tipi ısı değiştirici yardımıyla aracı akışkana aktarılan ısı enerjisi araç içerisindeki ısı eşanjörü üzerinden kabin içine aktarılmıştır. Kabin içi ısıtmada, ısı eşanjörü olarak tipik bir otomobilin kalorifer radyatörü kullanılmıştır. Kalorifer radyatörü içerisinden geçen aracı akışkanın sıcaklığı bir fan yardımıyla kabin içine zorlanmış hava akışı ile aktarılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmalarda, aracı akışkan türü (saf su, şebeke suyu, antifriz), aracı akışkan debisi, RT55 içerisine ısı transfer hızını artırıcı katkı maddeleri (%10 grafit, %10 𝐴𝑙2𝑂3) ve kanatçık ilavesinin etkisi araştırılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmalar, gerçek iklim koşullarında 20 dakikalık ısı deşarj süresince gerçekleştirilmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen deneysel çalışmalar sonucunda; kapalı devre sıvı dolaşım sisteminde %75 etilen-glikol+%25 şebeke suyu karışımına sahip aracı akışkan ve 3 l/d aracı akışkan debisinin yanında RT55 içerisine %10 grafit katkısının gerçekleştirildiği düzenleme ile optimum kabin içi sıcaklık ve ısıtma süresi elde edilmiştir. Optimum FDM yardımlı kabın içi ısıtma sistemi düzenlemesi ile 5 °C kabin içi sıcaklık ve 92 °C FDM sıcaklık şartlarında başlanılan deneysel çalışmalarda, 20 dakika sonunda tipik bir sedan otomobilin kabin içi sıcaklığı 14 °C'a ulaştırılabilmiştir. In this thesis, a series of experimental studies were carried out on the heat discharge process of the latent heat storage system, in which the heat energy thrown into the atmosphere with the exhaust gases in internal combustion engine vehicles is stored with the help of phase change material (PCM). In the study, paraffin wax, which is commercially defined as RT55, was used as PCM. In experimental studies, the heat energy stored in the PCM container was used to heat the interior of a typical sedan vehicle under cold starting conditions. In the PCM assisted interior heating system, a closed-circuit liquid circulation system is used, consisting of 2 heat exchangers, one of which is used for the storage of the PCM material and the other used for the interior heating of the vehicle. The working fluid was circulated between the heat exchangers with the aid of a DC water pump. The heat energy transferred to the working fluid with the help of the serpentine type heat exchanger, which consists of 3 layers nested in the PCM container, is transferred to the cabin via the heat exchanger inside the vehicle. The heating radiator of a typical automobile is used as the heat exchanger in the cabin heating. The temperature of the working fluid passing through the heating radiator was transferred into the cabin by a forced air flow with the help of a fan. In the experimental studies, the effect of the working fluid type (pure water, mains water, antifreeze), the flow rate of the working fluid, the additives that increase the heat transfer rate (10% graphite, 10% 𝐴𝑙2𝑂3) and the addition of fins to the RT55 were investigated. Experimental studies were carried out during 20 minutes of heat discharge in real climatic conditions. As a result of the experimental studies carried out; In the closed-circuit fluid circulation system, the working fluid with a mixture of 75% ethylene-glycol + 25% mains water and 3 l/d working fluid flow rate, as well as the arrangement in which 10% graphite is added to the RT55, has achieved optimum interior temperature and heating time. In the experimental studies started with optimum PCM-assisted interior heating system arrangement at 5 °C in-cab temperature and 92 °C PCM temperature conditions, the interior temperature of a typical sedan car was reached to 14 °C at the end of 20 minutes.
