Tarihi çok eskilere dayanan Muğla, çeşitli medeniyetlere sahne olmuş ve zengin kültürlere beşiklik etmiştir. Kültürel değerlerin büyük çoğunluğunun etrafında şekillendiği geçiş dönemleri, Muğla'nın Yerkesik yöresinde tüm canlılığıyla varlığını sürdürmektedir. Geçiş dönemleri olarak adlandırdığımız doğum, evlenme ve ölüm çevresinde şekillenen gelenekler, uygulamalar, inançlar kişilerin hem toplumda yaşayan diğer insanlarla hem de ailenin diğer fertleriyle uyumlu yaşamasını sağlamıştır. Ve bunun sonucunda kişiyi yeni dönemlere geçişi sırasında onu daha da mutlu etmiştir. Yerkesik Yöresi Geçiş Dönemi Âdetleri isimli bu çalışma, Giriş dışında doğum, sünnet, evlenme ve ölüm olmak üzere dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Giriş kısmında Muğla'nın tarihî, coğrafî, fizikî, ekonomik, kültürel ve dil özellikleri üzerinde durulmaktadır. Birinci bölümde Doğum, Doğum Öncesi, Doğum Sırası ve Doğum Sonrası âdetleri yer almaktadır. İkinci bölümde Sünnet, Sünnet Öncesi, Sünnet Sırası ve Sünnet Sonrası âdetleri yer almaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde Düğün, Düğün Öncesi, Düğün Sırası ve Düğün Sonrası âdetleri yer almaktadır. Dördüncü bölümde Ölüm, Ölüm Öncesi, Ölüm Sırası ve Ölüm Sonrası âdetleri yer almaktadır. Bu çalışma sonucunda, Yerkesik yöresindeki geçiş dönemlerine ait inanç ve uygulamaların eski Türk kültürüyle bağlantılı olduğu görülmüştür. Bu da şu sonucu ortaya koymaktadır ki bugün devam eden âdetler, uygulamalar eski Türk inanç sisteminin günümüze ulaşmış şeklidir. Muğla, whose history dates back to ancient times, as been the scene of various civilizations and has been the cradle of rich cultures. Transition periods, around which the majority of cultural values are shaped, continue teir existence with all their vitality in the Yerkesik region of Muğla. Traditions, practices and beliefs shaped around birth, marrage and death, which we call transitional periods, have enabled people to live in harmony with both other people living in the society and other members of the family. And as a result, it made the person even happier during the transition to new periods. This study, named Yerkesik Region Transition Period Customs, consists of four parts, including birth, circumcision, marriage and dealth, apart from the Introduction. In the introduction part, historical geopraphical, physical, economic, cultural and linguistic features of Muğla are emphasized. In the first part, birth, there are Birth, Prenatal, Birth Order and Postnatal customs. In the second part, there are traditions of Circumcision, Before Circumcision, During Circumcision and After Circumcision. In the third part, there are the customs of Wedding, Before the Wedding, During the Wedding and After the Wedding. In the fourth chapter, there are the customs of Death, Pre-Death, Death Row and Post-Death. . As a result of this study, it was seen that the beliefs and practices of the transitional periods in the Yerkesik region are related to the old Turkish culture. And this reveals the following result that the traditions and practices that continue today are the form of the old Turkish belief system that has reached the present day.
