Tüketimin, sosyal yapı ve gündelik yaşamda görece etkisinin artması ve önemli bir konuma ulaşması ile birlikte bireylerin tüketime ilişkin yaklaşımları ve davranışları incelenmeye değer bir alan olarak görülmeye başlanmıştır. Özellikle tüketimin; ihtiyaçların, değerlerin ve gündelik davranış kalıplarının üretiminde aktif bir rol üstlenmesi dikkatleri çekmektedir. Farklı yönlere ve enstantanelere sahip olan tüketim normu, bu çalışmada "gösterişçi" boyutu ile ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmanın konusu, gösterişsel eğilimlerin tüketim sürecindeki ve sosyal ilişkilerdeki belirlenimlerini ortaya koyarak; oldukça kırılgan bir ekonomiye sahip ülkemizde milli gelir dağılımından en az payı alan ancak toplumun büyük bir kesimini oluşturan alt gelir grubunun, sınırlı tüketim harcamalarında gösterişçi eğilimlerine ışık tutumaktır. Bu bağlamda alan araştırması, hem farklı gelir ve yaşam düzeylerine ev sahipiliği yapan hem de yoğun sosyal ilişkilerin ve etkileşimin yaşandığı Batı Akdeniz Bölgesi'nde, Antalya-Isparta-Burdur illerinin merkez ilçelerinde yürütülmüştür. 2020 yılında tamamlanan araştırmaya, kent merkezi temelinde Antalya'dan 533, Isparta'dan 107 ve Burdur'dan 43 kişi katılmıştır. Alan araştırmasının teorik arka planı, Veblen'in 'Aylak Sınıf Kuramı' temelinde kurgulanmıştır. Araştırmanın verilerinin toplanmasında nicel tekniklerden biri olan tarama (survey) tekniğinden, araştırma bulgularının analizinde ise sosyal ve uygulamalı bilimlere yönelik olarak hazırlanan ve bilgisayar ortamında kullanılan istatistik programlarından yararlanılmıştır. Batı Akdeniz'de, Veblen'ci bir perspektiften ele alındığında, alt gelir grubunun tüketim pratiklerinde gösterişçi eğilimlerin pek çok görünümüne rastlanmıştır. Gösterişçi eğilimin tüketim süreçlerindeki en belirgin görünümleri; pahalı olanın satın alınması, satın alınanın teşhir edilmesi, statü ve saygınlık kazanma amacıyla satın alma, materyalist bir yaklaşım benimseme ve öykünülen grubunun tüketim pratiklerinin taklit edilmesi şeklindedir. Bununla birlikte tüketim süreçlerinde gösterişçi eğilimlerin ortaya çıkmasında; demografik nitelikler, moda, gelirdeki artış, kitle iletişim araçları ve alşıveriş mekânlarını ziyaret etme etkilidir. Individuals' approaches and behaviors regarding consumption have started to be seen as an area worth studying with the increase in the relative effect of consumption on social structure and daily life and reaching an important position. Especially consumption; Taking an active role in the production of needs, values and daily behavior patterns draws attention. The consumption norm, which has different directions and instantiationis discussed in this study with its "pretentious" dimension. The subject of this study is by revealing the determinations of ostentatious tendencies in consumption processes and social relations; It is to shed light on the pretentious tendencies of the lower income group, which has the least share of the national income distribution in our country, which has a very fragile economy, but constitutes a large part of the society, in limited consumption expenditures. In this context, the field research was carried out in the central districts of Antalya-Isparta-Burdur provinces, in the Western Mediterranean Region, which is home to different income and living levels and where intense social relations and interaction are experienced. 533 people from Antalya, 107 from Isparta and 43 people from Burdur participated in the research, which was completed in 2020, on the basis of the city center. The theoretical background of the field research was built on the basis of Veblen's "Leisure Class Theory". Survey technique, which is one of the quantitative techniques, was used in collecting the data of the research, and statistical programs prepared for social and applied sciences and used in computer environment were used in the analysis of the research findings. In the Western Mediterranean, when taken from a Veblenist perspective, many appearances of pretentious tendencies in the consumption practices of the lower income group have been encountered. The most prominent aspects of the pretentious context in consumption processes; purchasing the expensive, exposing the purchased, purchasing in order to gain status and imitating the consumption practices of the emulated group. On the other hand, demographic characteristics, fashion, increase in income, mass communication and visiting places of shopping are effective in the emergence of pretentious tendencies in consumption processes.
