Doğadaki tüm canlılar tüketerek hayatını devam ettirmek zorundadır. Tüketim; insanın hayatta kalmak için gerekli olan fizyolojik ihtiyaçlarının (su, yemek, ısınma, uyku…) yerine getirilmesiyle başlayıp tüketmek için tüketen bir çağa kadar uzanmaktadır. İhtiyaçların dışında insanların lüks olarak yaptığı tüketimin nedenleri merak konusu olmuştur. Bilim insanlarının ortak görüşü olarak toplumda farklılaşmak isteyen insanın statü sahibi olarak üstün olma çabasıdır. Peki insanoğlu neden statü sahibi olmak ister? Sadece ailesi tanısa da hayatını devam ettirebilecek olan birey neden herkes tarafından tanınmak ister? Orta sınıf bir restoranda da doyabilecekken neden her insanın gidemediği lüks restoranda yemek yemek ister? Tüketim kavramı sadece ekonomik olarak ele alınamayacak kadar geniş bir olgudur. Yukarıda sorulan soruların cevaplarını da sadece ekonomik açıdan düşünüp cevaplandıramayız işin psikoloji ve sosyoloji boyutları da ele alınmalıdır. Bu tez çalışmasında Gösterişçi Tüketimin bireylerin mutluluk düzeyinde olumlu/olumsuz etkisinin olup olmadığının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. All living things in nature have to continue their lives by consuming. Consumption begins with the fulfillment of the physiological needs (water, food, warming, sleep…) of human beings to survive and goes back to a consuming age to consume. Apart from the necessities, the reasons of the consumption made by people as luxury have been the subject of curiosity. The common view of scientists is that people who want to differentiate in society try to be superior as status holders. Why does mankind want to have status? Why would anyone want to be recognized by everyone, even if only her family knew her? Why would he want to eat in a luxurious restaurant where not every person can go when he can get enough in a middle class restaurant? The concept of consumption is too large to be considered economically. We can not only think and answer the answers of the above questions economically but also the psychology and sociology aspects of the work. In this thesis, it is aimed to evaluate whether pretentious consumption has a positive / negative effect on individuals' happiness level. Keywords: Conspicuous consumption, Happiness, Status.
