Özellikle ölümün nerede gerçekleşeceği konusu her geçen gün büyük değişikliklere uğrayan dinamik bir gündem konusu haline gelmiştir. İlk zamanlar evlerde, sevdiklerin arasında, kendi eşyaların içerisinde gerçekleşen ölüm zamanla hastane koridorlarına, sağlık personelinin arasında ilk defa gördüğü eşyaların bulunduğu odalara taşınmış durumdadır. Yaşanan bu değişim esasen basit bir değişim değildir. Bu değişim beraberinde hem ölümün ticarileşmesine hem de ölümün zamanla toplumsal bir kurum haline gelmesine ortam hazırlamıştır. Bu çerçevede ölme mekanlarının değişmesi ile ölümün ticarileşmesi ve kurumsallaşması arasında bir ilişki olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sağlık hizmetleri bağlamında ölme mekanlarında yaşanan değişikliği tespit etmek ve bu değişimin sonuçlarını tanımlayarak kavramsallaştırmaktır. Araştırma kapsamında nitel araştırma tekniklerinden biri olan temellendirilmiş kuram (Grounded Theory) tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma grubunu bir yakınını kaybetmiş ve üzerinden en fazla 5 yıl geçmiş olan 22 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılara amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt ve kartopu yöntemiyle ulaşılmıştır. Katılımcılarla yapılan görüşmeler ses kayıt cihazı kullanılarak kayıt altına alınmış ve daha sonra deşifre edilerek doküman haline getirilmiştir. Temellendirilmiş kuramın gereklerine uygun olarak kodlama işlemi yapılmış, analiz edilmiş ve araştırmacının gözlem ve tecrübeleri ile yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, katılımcılarla yapılan görüşmeler çerçevesinde ölme mekanlarına ilişkin algının zaman içerisinde büyük değişikliğe uğradığı, kültürel unsurlara yansıyan "ölüm döşeği" kavramının artık bir karşılığının kalmadığı görülmüştür. Ölüm döşeğinden steril yoğun bakımlara doğru yaşanan bu değişim ise hem ölüm ile ilgili harcama kanallarında hem de ölümün toplumdaki yapısal durumunda değişikliklere neden olmuştur. Artık ölüm üzerinde bir harcama planlamasının yapıldığı, birtakım kimselerin üzerinden para kazandığı bir sektör haline gelmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda yeme içme sektörü, sağlık sektörü, cenaze malzemeleri sektörü, mezarlık hizmetleri ve toplumsal alanlar ölüm ile ilgili öne çıkan sektörlerdir. Bu alanların oluşmasıyla birlikte sektör haline gelen ölüm, artık toplumun bir parçası, insanların yaşam tarzlarının bir yansıması haline dönüşmüştür. Bu minvalde araştırmaya konu olan sağlık hizmetlerine bağlı olarak ele alınan ölme mekanları, "ölümün kurumsallaşması" olarak kavramsallaştırılmıştır. Death is a subject that is expressed as the migration from the life of this world to the life of the hereafter and has a social aspect with its pre- and post-processes. The meaning attributed to death also gains importance in this context. As the depth and variety of meaning increase, where and when death will take place, it turns into a subject that people wonder about and that they need to focus on. Especially the issue of where death will take place has become a dynamic agenda subject that undergoes great changes day by day. The death, which took place at home, among loved ones, in their own belongings at first, has been carried over time to the hospital corridors, to the rooms where the things that he saw for the first time among the health personnel. This change is not a simple change. This change has prepared the environment for both the commercialization of death and the fact that death has become a social institution over time. In this context, it is thought that there is a relationship between the change of places of death and the commercialization and institutionalization of death. The aim of this research is to identify the change in the places of death in the context of health services and to define and conceptualize the consequences of this change. Grounded Theory technique, which is one of the qualitative research techniques, was used within the scope of the research. The research group consists of 22 people who have lost a relative and who have spent a maximum of 5 years. The participants were reached by the criterion and snowball method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The interviews with the participants were recorded using a voice recorder and then deciphered and documented. In accordance with the requirements of the grounded theory, the coding process was carried out, analyzed and interpreted with the observations and experiences of the researcher. As a result of the research, it has been seen that the perception of the places of death has changed over time within the framework of the interviews with the participants, and the concept of "deathbed", which is reflected in the cultural elements, has no meaning anymore. This change from the deathbed to sterile intensive care units has caused changes both in the expenditure channels related to death and in the structural situation of death in society. It has now become a sector where a spending planning is made on death and some people earn money from it. As a result of the research, the food and beverage sector, health sector, funeral materials sector, cemetery services and social areas are the prominent sectors related to death. Death, which has become a sector with the formation of these areas, has now become a part of society, a reflection of people's lifestyles. In this respect, the places of death, which are considered depending on the health services that are the subject of the research, are conceptualized as the "institutionalization of death".
