Bu çalışma, darbe dönemlerinde medya ve iktidar ilişkilerinin nasıl şekillendiğini, 12 Eylül 1980 darbesi örneği üzerinden incelemeyi amaç edinmiştir. Belirlenen hedef doğrultusunda, gazetelerin konuyla ilgili haberlerinin ele alınması önemlidir. Çünkü haber dilinde yaşanan değişim ve dönüşümler, basın ve iktidar ilişkilerinin ortaya çıkarılabilmesi noktasında en önemli unsurlardan biri olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Çalışmada bu amaç ekseninde, belirlenen gazetelerin darbe öncesi ve sonrası birinci sayfalarında yer verdiği haberler, Teun A. Van Dijk'in temellendirdiği eleştirel söylem analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Türkiye yazılı basın hayatında yer alan ve o dönem ulusal anlamda sürekli yayın yapan beş ayrı gazete örneklem olarak alınmıştır. Beş ayrı gazetenin ele alınması, Türkiye'de yayın yapan gazetelerin ideolojik farklılıklarını geniş tabana yayması açısından önem arz etmektedir. Bu bağlamda, 12 Eylül 1980 öncesi ve sonrası yayın hayatını sürdüren Cumhuriyet, Tercüman, Yeni Asır, Hürriyet ve Milliyet gazeteleri araştırmaya dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada, gazetelerin her birinin dönemin koşullarına uygun olarak çeşitli değişim ve dönüşümler yaşadığı görülmüştür. This study aims to examine how the media and power relations were shaped during the coup periods through the example of the 12 September 1980 coup. In line with the determined target, it is important to deal with the news of the newspapers on the subject. Because the changes and transformations in the language of news appear as one of the most important factors in revealing the relations of press and power. In the axis of this goal in the study, the news that the designated newspapers appeared on the front pages before and after the coup, Teun A. It has been studied by Van Dijk's method of Critical Discourse Analysis. Five different newspapers, which were in the print media life of Turkey and were broadcasting continuously in the national sense at that time, were taken as a sample. Considering five different newspapers is important in terms of spreading the ideological differences of the newspapers published in Turkey to a wide base. In this context, Cumhuriyet, Tercüme, Yeni Asir, Hürriyet and Milliyet newspapers, which continued their publishing life before and after September 12, 1980, were included in the research. In the study, it was observed that each of the newspapers experienced various changes and transformations in accordance with the conditions of the period.
