Hatalı bir davranıştan sonra güvenli ilişkilerin tekrar tesis edilmesi için en uygun seçenek olan özür dilemek, hatadan etkilenen mağdurun zararını telafi etmeyi ve mağdura destek sağlamayı amaçlayan bir konuşma eylemidir. İş dünyasında gücü elinde bulunduran yöneticilerin hangi motivasyonla özür dilediği ve astların bu özürleri nasıl algıladığını araştıran bu çalışmanın örneklemini savunma sanayi sektöründe faaliyet gösteren bir firma oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma, birbirini takip eden dört aşama halinde yürütülmüştür. Birinci aşamada araştırmaya konu olan Özür Dileme Motivasyonları Ölçeğinin Türkçe uyarlaması gerçekleştirilmiştir. 170 katılımcı ile yürütülen birinci aşamanın sonunda ölçeğin güvenilir ve geçerli bir ölçüm aracı olarak Türk kültüründe kullanılabileceği ortaya konmuştur. Çalışmanın amacı doğrultusunda, yöneticilerin özür dileme motivasyonlarının çalışanlar tarafından nasıl algılandığını tespit edebilmek için, Türkçe uyarlaması yapılan ölçek soruları revize edilmiş halini içeren form kullanılmıştır. İkinci aşamada, 91 yönetici ve 60 mavi yaka çalışan olmak üzere 151 katılımcı ile pilot uygulama gerçekleştirilmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada, 214 yönetici ve 163 mavi yaka çalışan olmak üzere toplamda 377 katılımcı ile çalışmanın temel amacı olan yöneticilerin neden özür diledikleri ve astlarının bunu nasıl algıladıkları ortaya konmuştur. Dördüncü aşamada ise araştırmanın temel sorusu ters yüz edilerek açık uçlu bir soru ile katılımcılardan yöneticilerin neden özür dilemediğine ilişkin cevaplar elde edilmiş ve bu cevaplar içerik analizi ile incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre; olumlu kişilik özelliklerinin, empatik beceriye sahip olmanın, hatayı kabul edebilmenin, kendisinin hata yapabilme ihtimali olduğunu kabul etmenin, güç ile toksik bir ilişki geliştirmemenin, toplumsal cinsiyet klişelerinden bağımsız ilişki geliştirmenin, kendinin olduğu kadar muhatabın da itibarını önemsemenin, ilişkilerine değer vermenin ve özür dilemeyi destekleyen yerleşmiş bir kültür varlığının özür dileme davranışı için birer motivasyon kaynağı olduğu görülmüştür. Yöneticilerin özür dileme motivasyonları cinsiyet, yaş, deneyim ve çalışma süresine göre farklılaşmaktadır. Yanı sıra kurumda çalışma yılı ile ilişkilere değer vermeye bağlı olarak özür dileme arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Buna göre kurumda uzun süredir çalışan yöneticilerin ilişkisel değeri önceledikleri için kısa süre çalışan yöneticilerden daha fazla özür dilediği görülmüştür. Ayrıca yaş değişkenin yöneticilerin özür dilemesinde anlamlı bir faktör olduğu, genç yöneticilerin yaş almış yöneticilerden daha fazla özür dilediği tespit edilmiştir. Apologizing, which is the most appropriate option for re-establishing safe relationships after misbehavior, is an act of speaking that aims to compensate the victim for the mistake and to provide support to the victim. This study's sample, which investigates what motivates the managers who hold power in the business world to apologize and how their subordinates perceive these apologies, consists of a company operating in the defense industry sector. The study was carried out in four successive phases. In the first stage, the Turkish adaptation of the Apology Motives Scale, which is the subject of the research, was carried out. At the end of the first phase, which was carried out with 170 participants, it was revealed that the scale could be used as a reliable and valid measurement tool in Turkish culture. In line with the purpose of the study, a form containing the revised version of the scale adapted into Turkish was used to determine how the managers' apology motives was perceived by the employees. In the second stage, a pilot study was carried out with 151 participants, including 91 managers and 60 blue-collar employees. In the third stage, the study's main purpose, why the managers apologize and how their subordinates perceive the apology was revealed with a total of 377 participants, 214 managers and 163 blue-collar employees. In the fourth stage, the main question of the research was reversed and answers were obtained from the participants with an open-ended question about why the managers did not apologize, and these answers were analyzed by content analysis. According to the results of the study; positive personality traits, having empathic skills, being able to admit mistakes, admitting that one can make mistakes, not developing a toxic relationship with power, developing relationships free from gender stereotypes, caring about the reputation of the other person as well as oneself, valuing their relationships and established cultural entity supporting apology is a source of motivation for apologetic behavior. Managers' apology motives differ according to gender, age, experience and working time. In addition, a significant relationship was found between years of employment in the institution and apologizing depending on valuing relationships. According to this, it was conferred that the managers who have been working in the organization for a long time apologize more than the managers who have been working for a short time because they prioritized the relational value. Furthermore, it was determined that the age variable was a significant factor in the apology of the managers, and the younger managers apologized more than the older managers.
