Bu çalışmanın amacı, Pedodonti Kliniğimize başvuran 12-14 yaşları arasındaki hastaların kendi algıladıkları subjektif ortodontik tedavi ihtiyaçlarının ve objektif ortodontik tedavi ihtiyaçlarının çeşitli parametreler (ailelerin sosyoekonomik durumları ve eğitim seviyeleri, hastaların periodontal durumları, mevcut diş çürükleri, yaşları ve cinsiyetleri) ile olan ilişkilerinin incelenmesidir.Çalışmamızı, ortodontik tedavi ihtiyaçlarını değerlendirmek için 534 hastaya (301'i kız, 233'ü erkek) uygulanan anket soruları ve ortodontik tedavi ihtiyacı indekslerinin ölçümleri oluşturmaktadır. Ortodontik tedavi ihtiyacı indeksleri, çocukların ailelerinin sosyoekonomik durumları, ebeveynlerin eğitim seviyeleri gibi bazı parametrelerden etkilenebileceğinden, değerlendirme yapılırken bu faktörler de dikkate alınmıştır. Çocuklarda, ortodontik indekslerin değerlendirilmesinde ortodontik tedavi ihtiyacı DHC İndeksi ile % 36,5, AC İndeksi ile % 10,9, DAI İndeksi ile % 18,9 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Ailelerin gelir seviyelerinin artmasıyla birlikte, AC ve DHC İndeks değerlerine göre ortodontik tedavi ihtiyacı olan çocukların sayılarında ise azalma olduğu bildirilmiştir. Kızların erkeklere göre dişlerinin estetik görünümünden daha fazla oranda memnun olmadıkları gözlemlenmiştir. Çocukların % 76,2'si dişlerinin düzeltilmesi gerektiğini düşünmekte iken, % 75,32'si hekim tarafından gerekli görüldüğü takdirde ortodontik tedavi görmeye hazır olduklarını belirtmiştir. Maloklüzyon, hastanın psikolojisini etkileyen sosyal hayatında bazı kısıtlamalara neden olabileceği görülmüştür.Sonuç olarak, diş ve çenelerde herhangi bir anomali varlığının erken dönemde belirlenmesi ve hastaların, ailelerinin bu konu ile ilgili olarak hekimler tarafından daha çok bilinçlendirilmesi sayesinde ileriki dönemlerde oluşabilecek maloklüzyonların daha da şiddetlenmesinin önüne geçilebilecektir.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between subjective orthodontic treatment needs of their own perceived of 12-14 years old patients who admitted to Pediatric Dentistry Clinic, subjective orthodontic treatment needs and various parameters (socioeconomic status and educational level of the family, periodontal status of patients, dental caries, age and gender). Our study constitutes the measurements of orthodontic treatment need indexs and questionnaire which applied to 534 patients (301 girls, 233 boys) to evaluate the orthodontic treatment needs. The orthodontic treatment need indexs, these which can be affected by several parameters such as level of education and socioeconomic status of parents of children, when assessing the evaluation of treatment need, these factors are taken into consideration. In children, the evaluation of the need for orthodontic treatment with DHC Index is % 36.5, with AC Index is % 10.9, with DAI Index is % 18.9. According to the index value of AC and DC, with the increase in the level of family income, in the number of children who need orthodontic treatment is reported to be declined. Girls were also observed more frequently unpleasent than boys about the aesthetic appearance of their teeth. % 76,2 of patients thought that their teeth should have been straightened and % 75,32 of patients stated that they are ready to orthodontic treatment if treatment is seen necessary by the dentist. The dentist has been given the importance of malocclusion which may cause some restrictions of the patient's social life. As a result, identifying of any anomalies of teeth and jaw at an early stage and through making more conscious of patients, their families dealing with this issue by dentists, the malocclusion that may occur in the future can be avoided.
