Sembol kısaca "soyut şeylerin tanınmasına ve bilinmesine vesile olan sözcükler, somut işaretler ve nesneler" diye tanımlanabilir.Yirminci yüzyılda Kur'an tefsiri üzerinde duran bazı şahıslar -örneğin Mısırlı Muhammed Ahmed Halefullah, Avusturyalı Muhammed Esed- Kur'an'da geçen bazı kıssaların ve mucizelerin gerçek değil, sembolik olduğunu söylemişlerdir. Benzeri iddialar günümüzde de gündeme getirilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Kur'an'daki sembollerin ve sembolik anlatımın ne olduğu ortaya çıkarılarak konu vuzuha kavuşturulmak istenmiştir.Çalışmada önce sembol ve sembol çeşitlerinin tarifleri üzerinde durulmuştur. Daha sonra bu tariflere uygun olarak Kur'an'da üç çeşit sembolik unsur tesbit edilmiştir. Birinci kısım dille ilgili sembolik unsurlardır. Bu kısım teşbih, istiare ve temsillerle yapılan sembolik anlatımlarla ilgilidir. İkinci kısım davranışlarla ilgili sembolik unsurlardır. Bu kısım namaz, hac gibi ibadetlerin sembolik yönüyle ilgilidir. Üçüncü kısım ise varlıkların sembolik yönüyle ilgilidir. Bu kısım güneş, ay gibi Kur'an'da Allah'ın varlığına, birliğine, isimlerine işaret eden varlıkların ve Kur'an kıssalarındaki şahısların sembolik yönüyle ilgilidir.Çalışmamızın son kısmında sembolik anlatımların çok olduğu Neml Sûresindeki Süleyman (a.s) ve Belkıs kıssası ele alınmış, kıssada geçen semboller ve sembolik anlatımlar tesbit edilmiştir. In short, symbols can be defined as words, concrete sings or objects that help us recognize and understand abstract or intangible things. Some of the twentieth century interpreters of Holy Qur’an such as Muhammed Ahmed Halefullah of Egypt and Muhammed Esed of Austria assert that some of the stories and miracles that Holy Qur’an covers are not real but symbolic. Similar claims might be heard in the contemporary era as well. The present study was an attempt to uncover Quranic symbols and their meanings and contribute to the field.The study starts with the coverage of the definitions and types of symbols in the literature. Afterwards, we identified three types of symbolic elements in Holy Qur’an. First, there are verbal or figurative symbolic elements in Qur’an. This type is relevant to symbolic expressions and figurative speech that are in the form similitude, metaphors and figurations. The second type is symbolic elements relevant to behaviors. This type includes symbolic aspects of prayers such as daily prayers (namaz) and pilgrimage. The third type is relevant to the symbolic aspects of creations. In this form some of the creations such as moon or the sun that bring evidence to the existence and oneness of Allah (swt) are covered. In addition, this section covers symbolic aspects of Quranic personalities that are included in the stories and narrations. In the last part of the study, the Surah Naml, which uses symbolic discourse most frequently and explains the story of Prophet Solomon (pbuh) and Bilqis is discussed.
