En eski süsleme sanatlarından biri ebru sanatıdır. "Renklerin suyla dansının yarattığı bir ahenk" olarak da dile getirilen, yoğun bir emek gerektiren, tekrarı olmayan, geri dönüşü olmayan bir sanattır. Başlangıcında sadece kitap ve kağıt süsleme sanatı olarak kullanılan ebru sanatı günümüzde bu orijinal hali dışında özgün arayışlar çerçevesinde şekillendirilmeye çalışılmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda bu çalışmada ebru sanatının deriye uygulanabilirliği üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışmada genel olarak; ebru ve dericilik sanatlarının tarihi süreçte geçirdiği değişimler, kullanım alanları ve bu uygulamanın gerçekleşebilmesi için kullanılan yöntemler, dericilik gibi el sanatlarımızın teknolojik gelişim ve hızlı sanayileşmenin getirdiği ekonomik ve toplumsal değişikliklerin sonucunda, gelişen yeni ürünlere karşı değerini kaybetmemesi adına bir yöntem önerisi sunmak, ebru ve deriyi bir arada kullanılarak günümüzün koşullarında yeni ve çok sayıda ürün tasarlanabilirliğinin, deri desenlendirmede ebru tekniğinin uygulanabilirliğinin denenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, 18 farklı ebru yöntemi deriye uygulanmış ve 36 çeşit ebru derili ürün tasarımı yapılmıştır. Ürünler bir sergiyle sanatseverlerin beğenisine sunulmuş ve olumlu tepkiler alınmıştır. Klasik Türk sanatlarından ebru sanatının köklü dericilik sanatına uygulanabileceği belirlenmiş, yapılan tasarımlarla ortaya konulmuştur.

One of the oldest decorative arts is the art of marbling. It is an art expressed as "a harmony created by the dance of colors and water" and it is irreversible, irreproducible and requiring a labor intensive. The art of marbling was used as decorative art of books and paper at his beginning, today except his original state, it is studied within the framework of individual searches. Accordingly, the applicability of the art of marbling on the leather is focused in this study. Generally in this study; changes in the historical process of marbling and leather arts, usage areas and the methods used for the realization of this application, proposition of a method in order to prevent the value losing of developed new products of handicraft such as leather, that is a result of economic and social changes brought by technological development and rapid industrialization, usage a combination of marbling and leather in order to design new and a lot of products accordingly today's conditions and testing the applicability of the marbling technique on the leather patterning were aimed. For this purpose, 18 different marbling methods were applied to the leather and 36 types of marbling-leather products were designed. Products were presented to art lovers in an exhibition and positive reactions have been received. It is determined that the art of marbling, one of the classical Turkish art, could be applied to the leather art and put forth with the designs.
