Gelişmekte olan otomotiv endüstrisinde ileri teknolojilerin kullanımı önem kazanmıştır. Kompozit malzemeler de gelişen teknoloji ile birlikte hafif ve yüksek mukavemetli oluşuyla; otomotiv, havacılık, uzay ve savunma endüstrisinde yaygın bir şekilde kullanılmaya başlamıştır. Kompozit malzemeler 1950 yılından itibaren üretime başlamış ve kullanımı gün geçtikte yaygınlaşmıştır. Otomotiv endüstrisinde her geçen gün güvenlik ve yakıt tasarrufunun ön plana çıkması ile dayanımlı hafif ve sağlam malzemelere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Kompozit malzemelerin sunduğu avantajlar ve uygulama alanının çeşitliliği dolayısı ile birçok sektörde tercih sebebi olmaktadır. Yüksek mukavemet sağlaması ve hafif olmasıyla cam elyaf takviyeli kompozit malzemelerin kullanımı her alanda yaygınlaşmıştır. Çalışmada kompozit malzemelerin sunduğu avantajlar dolayısı ile araç tamponuna elyaf takviyeli kompozit malzemelerin optimizasyonu üzerinde araştırma yapılmıştır. Otomotiv ürün geliştirme süreçlerinde yüksek dayanımlı ve hafif ürünlerin kullanımının yanı sıra yolcu güvenliği de önemli yer almaktadır. Son zamandaki çalışmalar çarpışma sırasında yolcuya ve yayaya gelecek etkilerinin azaltılması üzerinedir. Ön çarpışma sırasında ilk etkilenen genellikle araç tamponlarıdır. Araç tamponlarından beklenti çarpışma sırasında istenilen dayanım değerlerini sağlayarak araca gelen kuvveti sönümlemek, yolcu ve yaya üzerindeki etkileri en aza indirmektir. Araç ön tamponlarında, hafif oluşu ve düşük maliyeti sebebi ile termoplastik polimer malzemeler tercih edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada aracın ön tamponunda kullanılan termoplastik polipropilen malzeme yerine cam elyaf, cam ve karbon hibrit elyafı, karbon elyaf, cam ve aramid hibrit elyaf takviyeli kompozit malzemelerin optimizasyonu üzerine çalışılmıştır. Farklı yapılardaki cam elyaflar epoksi reçine kullanılarak eşit şartlarda vakum torbalama yöntemi ile üretilmiştir Mekanik değerlerin belirlenebilmesi için polipropilen malzemeden üretilen tamponun darbe ve eğme analizleri yapılmıştır. Optimizasyon çalışmasında kullanılmak üzere elyaflar tamponda kullanıma uygun farklı özellikleri sağlayacak şekilde cam elyaf, cam ve karbon hibrit elyafı, karbon elyaf ve cam ve aramid hibrit elyaf takviyeli kompozitler olarak belirlenmiştir. Kompozitlerin çekme, eğme ve darbe testleri aynı sıcaklıkta ve eşit şatlarda yapılmıştır. Tampon araç üzerinde ilk darbeyi alan ve sönümleyici görevi üstlenen yapı olmasından dolayı, kompozit plakaların yapımında, mukavemet değerleri yüksek olan elyaflar ve matris malzemesi olarak epoksi reçine kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada, araç tamponlarında kullanılan polipropilen malzeme ile farklı elyaf takviyeli kompozit malzemelerin mekanik değerleri kıyaslanmıştır. Tampondan istenilen özelliklere göre deneyler sonucu elde edilen mekanik değerlerin karşılaştırılması ve kullanım alanına göre malzeme seçimi yapılabilmesi öngörülmüştür. In the developing automotive industry, the use of advanced technologies has gained importance. Composite materials with the developing technology as well as being light and high strength; has been widely used in the automotive, aerospace and defense industries. Composite materials have started to be produced in 1950 and their usage has become widespread. In the automotive industry, with the increasing importance of safety and fuel saving; durable, lightweight and strength materials are needed. Due to the advantages offered by composite materials and the variety of application areas, it is preferred in many industries. Due to its high strength and light weight, the use of glass fiber reinforced composite materials has become widespread in every field. In this study, optimization of fiber reinforced composite materials in vehicle bumper has been investigated because of the advantages of composite materials. In the automotive product development processes, besides the use of high-strength and lightweight products, passenger safety is also important. Recent studies have focused on reducing the impact on passengers and pedestrians during a collision. The vehicle bumpers are usually the first to be affected during the pre-collision. The expectation from the vehicle bumpers is to provide the desired strength values during the collision, to absorb the force coming to the vehicle and to minimize the effects on the passenger and pedestrian. Thermoplastic polymer materials are preferred in vehicle front bumpers because of their light weight and low cost. In this study, instead of thermoplastic polypropylene material used in the front bumper of the vehicle, optimization of glass fiber, glass and carbon hybrid fiber, carbon fiber, glass and aramid hybrid fiber reinforced composite materials were studied. Glass fibers of different structures are produced by vacuum bagging method under equal conditions by using epoxy resin. In order to determine the mechanical properties, impact and bending tests were performed to bumper produced of polypropylene material. The fibers were identified as glass fiber, glass and carbon hybrid fiber, carbon fiber and glass and aramid hybrid fiber reinforced composites to be used in the optimization study. Tensile, bending and impact tests of the composites were carried out at the same temperature and at equal conditions. Since the bumper is the first impact on the vehicle and acts as a damper, the composite plates are made of high strength fibers and epoxy resin is used as the matrix material. In this study, the mechanical values of polypropylene material used in vehicle bumpers and different fiber reinforced composite materials were compared. According to the desired features from the bumper; the comparison of the mechanical values obtained from the experiments and the selection of materials according to the field of use are predicted.
