Toplumların ritüellerinde musikinin önemli bir rolü vardır. Her toplumun ve kültürün kendilerine özgü ritüelleri ve buna bağlı olarak kendilerine özgü musikileri vardır. Mûsikî, tarih boyunca sanatın neredeyse her dalında kullanılmasının yanı sıra askeri, ilmî, tıbbî ve dinî birçok alanda da kullanılmıştır. Türk müzik kültürü bağlamında dinî duyguların ifadesi için ibadetlerde ve dinî ritüellerde kullanılan dinî mûsikî, "Cami Mûsikîsi" ve "Tekke Mûsikîsi" olarak iki ayrı şekilde kategorize edilmiştir. 20. yüzyıl, birçok alanda olduğu gibi, mûsikî alanında da gelişmelerin yaşandığı bir dönemdir. Pek çok eser de notaya alınabilmiş ve baskı teknolojisinin hızlı bir şekildeki gelişimi sayesinde müzik notaları da hızlıca kopya edilebilmiştir. Notanın ve nota yayıncılığının yaygın bir kullanıma sahip olduğu dönemden önce müzik eğitimi daha çok -bir çeşit taklide dayalı aktarım olan- meşkle sağlanmıştır. Özellikle 20. yüzyılın başlarından itibaren önemli miktarda müzik eseri notaya alınmış ve bazıları basılmış olup bu sayede bugün bu eserlere ulaşabilmekteyiz. Belgesel tarama ve görüşme yöntemlerinin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada 20. yüzyılının ilk yarısında İzmir'de dinî mûsikî besteciliği'nin Türk müzik kültürüne katkıları ortaya koyulmaya çalışılmıştır. İzmirde aktif şekilde, kısa ya da uzun süreli olarak görev almış olan kişilerin ortaya koymuş oldukları dinî mûsikî eserleri ile ilgili bilgiler çeşitli yazılı kaynaklarda yer almaktaysa da, söz konusu bestecileri ve eserlerini içeren toplu bir yayına Râstlanmamıştır. Bu tez çalışmasının amacı doğrultusunda 20. yüzyılın ilk yarısında İzmir ve civarında yaşamış olan dinî mûsikî bestecilerinin, biyografileri, dinî mûsikî bestecilikleri, eserleri ve Türk müzik kültürü eğitim sistemi içindeki yerleri incelenmeye çalışılmış ve istisnai olarak dönem dışı da olsa tez başlığı ile alakalı olmak üzere İzmir müzik kültürüne olan katkıları İzmir'deki diğer bestecilerle ve/veya İzmir müzik hayatı ile olan bağlantılarından dolayı diğer bazı besteciler de incelenmiştir. Bu dönemle ilgili olarak 45 bestekâra ulaşılmış olsa da bu 45 bestekâr içerisinden 24 bestekârın dinî mûsikî eseri bestelediği görülmüştür. Fakat eleştirel tartışmalar yapabilmek için, diğer bestecilerin de sanatçı kişilikleri ve müziksel yaşantıları incelenmiştir. Music has an important role in the rituals of the societies. Each community has its own rituals and music practices accordingly. In the course of history music had not only been used in every branch of art but also in military, scientific, medical, and religious fields. In the context of Turkish music culture, religious music in religious rituals and worship had been used in order to express the religious feelings and categorized under two titles as "Mosque Music" and "Tekke (Dervish Lounge) Music". 20th century is an era during which many improvements in the field of music took place, as in many other fields. Many works could have been put down on paper and Thanks to rapidly development of the press technology, the musical scores have been able to be copied rapidly. Before the period in which musical notation and musical notation publication had been used widespreadly, music education was mostly provided by "Meşk" -a kind of imitate based transferring- system. Especially by the beginnings of 20th century, important quantity of musical compositions were written by musical notation and some of them were published and thanks to that we can reach these compositions to day. This study in which document analysis and interview methods were used, the contributions of religious music composing İzmir to Turkish music culture in the first half of 20th century in were tried to be put forth. It was seen that informations about the religious musical compositions belonging to the composers who had been active in İzmir, in long or short terms could be found in different written sources but there wasn't a collective study about aforementioned composers and their works. In the direction of the aim of this thesis study, religious music composers who lived in the first half of 20th century in İzmir and its periphery were tried to be examined in the context of their, biographies, composing religious music, compositions and place in the Turkish music education system and exceptionally some important composers out of this period were also examined because of their important contributions to on İzmir Music Culture related to thesis topic and their relationships to, the other composers in İzmir and/or İzmir musical life. 45 Turkish music composers were reached belonging to this period but, it was seen that 24 out of these 45 composers had composed religious music. But these other composers' musical life and musical contributions were also examined to make critical discussions. This study is based on the musical archive of the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir presented with in the context of the Project "İstanbul 2010 Europe Culture Capital" which was based on the addition of the archives of Cüneyt Kosal, Turhan Taşan and Lütfü Ortakale was used (from the web site "http://www.sanatmuziginotalari.com/") and the list of 282 religious music compositions of 24 composers was given in appendices.
