Teknoloji hayatımızın her alanını etkiler ve bu alanların en önde gelenlerinden biri ise eğitimdir. Teknoloji sınıf içinde veya dışında kullanılabilecek yöntem, teknik ve araçların belirlenmesinde önemli bir rol oynar. Yeni bir teknolojik araç geliştirildiğinde, daha eski veya daha az kullanışlı olanların kullanımı azalacaktır. Bu duruma ek olarak, günümüz dünyasının öğrencilerinden dijital yerli olarak bahsedilmektedir ve bu da teknolojinin hayatları ile ne denli bütünleşmiş olduğunu önümüze serer. Bu sebepler doğrultusunda, teknolojinin araştırılması ve geliştirilmesi elzemdir. Üstelik, COVID-19 salgını okulların kapanmasına yola açmış ve okullardaki eğitimin çevrimiçi olarak devam ettirilmesine neden olmuştur. Bu durum da eğitim-öğretimde kullanılabilecek Bilgi ve İletişim Teknolojileri (BİT) araçları üzerine yapılacak çalışmaları daha önce olmadığı kadar önemli kılmıştır. BİT araçlarını kelime öğretimine uyarlayan birçok yöntem mevcuttur, fakat yabancı dil öğretmenleri için sınıflarına uygun olanları bulmak hep ağır bir yük olmuştur. Dolayısıyla, bahsedilen araştırma ihtiyacını bir nebze de olsa karşılamak ve İngilizce kelime öğretiminde kullanılabilecek bir BİT aracı sunmak amacıyla, bu çalışma VoScreen uygulamasının öğrencilerin kelime öğrenimleri üzerindeki etkisini ve genel olarak BİT araçlarına karşı tutumlarını incelemiştir. Çalışma hem nicel hem de nitel araştırma yöntemlerine sahip olduğundan karma yöntem çalışması olarak tanımlanabilir. Çalışmanın nicel kısmı, 8 haftalık bir deneyi ve ön ve son testleri kapsadığından yarı deneyseldir. Nitel kısmı ise 5 katılımcı ile gerçekleştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeleri kapsamaktadır. Çalışmanın uygulaması Mardin Artuklu Üniversitesinde yer almış ve A2 seviyesinde 82 adet İngilizce hazırlık öğrencisi ile birlikte çalışılmıştır. Tüm katılımcılar 30 soruluk bir kelime başarı testi çözdükten sonra, deney grubundaki katılımcılardan 8 hafta boyunca uygulamayı kullanmaları istenmiştir. 8 haftalık uygulama sürecinden sonra katılımcılar tekrar aynı kelime başarı testine tabi tutulmuşlardır. Çalışmanın sonuçları, VoScreen kullanan öğrencilerin kelime başarı testinden daha yüksek puanlar aldıklarını ve puanlar arasında anlamlı bir istatistiksel fark olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Çalışmanın nitel kısmını kapsayan ve 5 katılımcının dahil olduğu yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ise öğrencilerin BİT araçları üzerine çeşitli tutum ve görüşlerini ortaya koymuştur. Son olarak, VoScreen'in hem öğretmenler hem de öğrenciler tarafından İngilizce kelime öğretiminde ve öğreniminde kullanılmasının dikkate değer katkılar sağlayacağı sonucuna varılmıştır. Technology affects every aspect of our lives. One of the foremost areas it influences is education. Technology is of great importance in the specification of methods, techniques and tools to be used in or out of classrooms. When a new technological tool or method is developed, older and less convenient ones are likely to be obsolete. In addition to this condition, students in today's world are referred to as digital natives because technology is integrated into their lives. In the light of these motives, it is an acknowledged fact that research and development on technology is crucial. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the shutdown of schools and forced education to be maintained online which makes research on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to be used in learning more necessary than ever. There are numerous methods adapting technology to vocabulary teaching; however, finding suitable ones to implement has always been a heavy burden for language teachers. In order to fulfil the research need even just a little and to present an appropriate ICT tool to be used in vocabulary teaching, this thesis aims to analyse the effect of VoScreen tool on students' vocabulary achievements and attitudes towards ICT tools in general. The study can be classified as mixed method that has the characteristics of both quantitative and qualitative research designs. The quantitative dimension of the study is quasi-experimental, involving 8 weeks of treatment and preceded by a pre-test and followed by a post-test. The qualitative dimension of the study includes semi-structure interviews conducted with 5 participants. The implementation of the study took place in Mardin Artuklu University, School of Foreign Languages and included 82 preparatory class, A2 proficiency level students. After all participants took a vocabulary achievement test as the pre-test, 42 participants were asked to use VoScreen for 8 weeks. After the treatment process, all participants were asked to take the same vocabulary achievement test as the post-test. The results of the quantitative dimension of the study have indicated that participants in the experiment group have gotten higher scores from the post-test and there is a statistically significant difference between two groups' test scores. The results of the qualitative dimension have demonstrated students' various favouring attitudes and beliefs towards the usage of ICT tools in language learning. Lastly, it has been concluded that the utilization of VoScreen by instructors and students might yield notable benefits for vocabulary teaching and learning.
