Dünya çapında hızla yayılan COVID-19 salgınına karşı uygulanan kısıtlamalar kapsamında okullar hemen kapatılmış ve kısa bir süre sonra eğitime uzaktan eğitim ile devam edilmesine karar verilmiştir. Alınan kararlar doğrultusunda birçok lise öğrencisi ve özel bir lisede öğretmenlik yapan öğretmenler, çoğunluğunun daha önce aşina olmadığı çevrimiçi platformlarda derslerini yürütmeye başlamıştır. Bu çalışma, lise öğrencilerinin ve lisede eğitim veren İngilizce öğretmenlerinin uzaktan eğitim yoluyla İngilizce Dil Eğitimi konusundaki görüşlerini bulmaya çalışmaktadır. Bu araştırmaya Niğde ilinde uzaktan eğitimde İngilizce dersi veren özel bir liseden 95 öğrenci ve 7 İngilizce öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırma karma yöntemle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerden ölçek yoluyla veriler toplanıp betimsel ve çıkarımsal istatistiklerle analiz edilmiştir. İngilizce öğretmenleri ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler düzenlenmiş ve bu süreçte toplanan veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, genç öğrencilerin kişisel uygunluk, etkililik ve öğretilebilirlik alt boyutlarıyla ilgili olumlu düşünceleri olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Öte yandan yaşı büyük öğrenciler, yalnızca çalışma alışkanlıkları boyutu için olumlu düşüncelere sahip olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Öğretmenlerin açıkça ifade ettikleri gibi, uzaktan eğitimle ilgili hem olumlu hem de olumsuz görüşler alınmıştır. Uzaktan eğitimle öğretim yapan öğretmenleri en çok zorlayan durumlar etkileşim eksikliği, teknik sorunlar ve internet sorunları olurken, en olumlu özellikleri uzaktan eğitimin mesleki gelişimlerine katkıları ve aynı zamanda bazı utangaç öğrenciler için daha rahat bir eğitim ortamı sunabilmesidir. Ayrıca öğretmenler, dört temel İngilizce dil becerisi olan okuma, yazma, konuşma ve dinleme becerilerinin tamamına yönelik olumlu, olumsuz ya da tarafsız düşüncelere sahip olduklarını belirtmişlerdir. Veriler dikkate alınarak, hem öğretmenlere hem de öğrencilere uzaktan eğitimde dil öğrenimi hakkında gerekli eğitimlerin verilmesi ve kurumlar tarafından da desteklenilmesi önerilmiştir. As a part of the restrictions applied against COVID-19, which has been spreading rapidly worldwide, schools had been immediately forced to be closed down, and after a short period, it was decided to continue education via distance education. In accordance with the decisions taken, many high school students and teachers studying/teaching at high schools have begun teaching on online platforms with which majority of them have not been familiar previously. The present study attempts to find out views of high school students and teachers of English Language through distance education. 95 students and 7 English teachers from private high schools that have English language classes in distance education in Niğde participated in this study. The research was conducted through a mixed method. While the data were collected from students through a Likert- type scale and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, semi-structured interviews were administered with English teachers and data was examined by the content analysis. At the end of this study, it was concluded that the young students had favorable views of the sub-dimensions of personal suitability, effectiveness, and teachability. On the other hand, the old students possessed favorable views only for the dimension of study habits. Both favorable and unfavorable views were acquired from teachers about distance education as claimed clearly by them. While the most challenging situations for teachers teaching through distance education were lack of interaction, technical problems, and internet problems, the most favorable features were the contributions of distance education to their professional development and its capability, in terms of students, of providing a comfortable means of teaching for some shy type of students. In addition, teachers stated that they have positive, negative, or neutral thoughts for all of the four fundamental English language skills. In consideration of the data, both teachers and students have been provided with distance education training and it was recommended that they should be given support also by institutions.
