Bu çalışmanın temel amacı; Türkiye'de reel döviz kuru, enflasyon ve faiz oranlarının dış ticaret üzerindeki etkilerini 1970-2021 dönemi yıllık verilerini kullanarak teorik ve uygulamalı olarak simetrik ve asimetrik zaman serileri analiz yöntemleriyle incelemektir. Çalışmada serilerin durağanlıkları; ADF, PP, KPSS gibi klasik birim kök testlerinin yanında, yapısal kırılmaya izin veren Zivot ve Andrews (1992) ve Lee ve Strazicich (2003, 2004) testleriyle incelenmiştir. Seriler arasındaki eşbütünleşme ilişkileri; Engle ve Granger (1987) ve Johansen (1988), Hatemi-J (2008), Maki (2012) gibi simetrik, Granger ve Yoon (2002) ve Hatemi-J ve Irandoust (2012) asimetrik eşbütünleşme yöntemleriyle incelenmiştir. Seriler arasındaki nedensellik ilişkileri; Granger (1988) VECM, Hacker ve Hatemi-J (2006, 2012) simetrik nedensellik, Hatemi-J (2012) asimetrik nedensellik testleriyle incelenmiştir. Eşbütünleşme analizlerinde; Engle ve Granger (1987) yönteminde sadece bir modelde yer alan serilerin eşbütünleşik oldukları görülürken, Johansen (1988) testinde ise üç modeldeki serilerin de eşbütünleşik oldukları bulunmuştur. Hatemi-J (2008) yapısal kırılmalı eşbütünleşme testinde sadece Model 3'te, Maki (2012) yapısal kırılmalı eşbütünleşme testinde Model 2 ve Model 3'te yer alan serilerin eşbütünleşme ilişkisine sahip oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Granger ve Yoon (2002) asimetrik eşbütünleşme testi, hiçbir modelde saklı eşbütünleşme bulamazken, Hatemi-J ve Irandoust (2012) asimetrik eşbütünleşme testi; Model 1'de yer alan serilerin negatif bileşenleri arasında eşbütünleşme bulamamış ama Model 1'deki serilerin pozitif bileşenleri arasında, Model 2 ve Model 3'deki serilerin her iki bileşeni arasında da saklı eşbütünleşme ilişkilerinin var olduğunu göstermiştir. Nedensellik analizlerinde; Granger (1988) VECM'de sadece faiz oranından ithalata doğru tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi bulunabilmiştir.Hacker ve Hatemi-J (2006, 2012) simetrik nedensellik testinde; ihracattan enflasyon ve dünyadaki kişi başına düşen ortalama reel milli gelire ve faizden ithalata tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkileri bulunmuştur. Hatemi-J (2012) asimetrik nedensellik testindeyse; ihracattan faize, ithalattan enflasyon ve dünyadaki kişi başına düşen ortalama reel milli gelire doğru asimetrik nedensellik ilişkileri olduğu ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yapılan simetrik ve asimetrik analizler; Türkiye'nin dış ticaret açığı sorununun, sadece nominal kurun yükseltilmesiyle çözülemeyecek kadar kompleks ilişkiler barındırdığını ortaya koymuştur. The main purpose of the present study is to examine the theoretical and practical aspects of the effects of real exchange rate, inflation and interest rates on foreign trade in Turkey using annual data for the period 1970-2021 by symmetric and asymmetric time series analysis methods. The stationarity of the series in the study were also analyzed with Zivot and Andrews test (1992) and Lee and Strazicich Test (2003, 2004) which allows structural breaks in addition to the conventional unit root tests such as ADF, PP and KPSS. The cointegration relationships among the series were analyzed with symmetrical cointegration methods such as Engle and Granger (1987) and Johansen (1988), Hatemi-J (2008) and Maki (2012), and Granger and Yoon (2002) and Hatemi-J and Irandoust (2012) asymmetrical cointegration methods. The causality relationships among the series were examined with Granger (1988) VECM, Hacker and Hatemi-J (2006, 2012) symmetric causality test, and Hatemi-J (2012) asymmetric causality test. For the cointegration analyzes, the series in only one model were found to be cointegrated in Engle and Granger (1987) method while the series in all three models were found to be cointegrated in the Johansen (1988) test. The series were found to have cointegration relationships in Model 3 in Hatemi-J (2008) cointegration test with structural break, and in Model 2 and Model 3 in Maki (2012) cointegration test with structural break. No hidden cointegration was found for any model in Granger and Yoon (2002) asymmetrical cointegration test, while hidden cointegration relationships were found among the positive components of the series in Model 1 and among both components of Model 2 and Model 3, but no cointegration relationship was found among the negative components of the series in Model 1 in Hatemi-J and Irandoust (2012) asymmetrical cointegration test. The causality analysis Granger (1988) found only one-way causality relationship from interest rate to import in VECM. İndicates that there is uni-directional causality not only from export to inflation rate and average real per capita income in the world but also from interest rate to import, according to the results of the symmetric test of Hacker and Hatemi-J (2006, 2012). The asymmetric test of Hatemi-J (2012), on the other hand, demonstrates that there is an asymmetric causality relationship in the world from export to interest rate and from import to inflation rate and real per capita income. The symmetrical and asymmetrical analyses revealed that the problem of foreign trade deficit in Turkey consisted of too complex relationships to be solved only by increasing the nominal rate.
