Son yıllarda taşıt teknolojileri kapsamında özellikle batarya endüstrisinde yaşanılan hızlı gelişmeler fotovoltaik yapılara olan çalışmalara ilgiyi dikkat çekici oranda arttırmıştır. Fotovoltaik hücrelerin üretiminin temel olarak ucuz, çevreci ve kolay yöntemler ile üretilerek nihai tüketiciye ulaşılabilir olması hedeflenmektedir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda ITO veya FTO altlık malzemelerin aksine metal oksit esaslı yarı iletkenler kullanılarak fotovoltaik hücreler üretilmesi alternatif bir yaklaşım olarak ortaya konmuştur. Bu tez çalışmasında TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanotellerin fotovoltaik özellikleri ilk kez termal oksidasyon ve hidroliz yöntemleri ile iki aşamalı olarak üretilmiştir. Artan Ti konsantrasyonlarında (5 mM, 10 mM ve 25 mM) artan TiO2 kaplama kalınlıklarının saf ZnO nanotellere göre fotovoltaik özelliklerine olan etkisi incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanotellerin morfolojik yapıları (taramalı elektron mikroskopu (SEM)), yapısal özellikleri (enerji dağılımı spektrometresi (EDS), x-ışını difraktrometresi (XRD), x-ışını fotoelektron spekrometresi (XPS)), optik değerleri (fotolüminesans (FL), difüz reflektans (%DR)) ve elektriksel (gerilim-akum (I-V)) davranışları birbirleri ile karşılaştırılmıştır. 5 mM konsantrasyonuna sahip TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanotellerin hem 10 mM hem de 25 mM TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanotellerden daha yüksek yapısal kararlılığa ve en boy oranına sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Yapısal kararlılık ve en boy oranı, ZnO nanotellerin fotolüminens (FL) yoğunluğundan ve elektriksel özelliklerinden doğrudan etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Hernekadar XRD analizinde TiO2 piklerin şiddeti düşük çıksa da yapılan XPS analiz sonuçlarında Ti:O içeriği 1:2 oranında çıkarak yüzeydeki TiO2 varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca artan TiO2 konsantrasyonun varlığı EDS analizi ile doğrulanmıştır. Ayrıca, 5 mM TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanoteller ile kaplandığında DLE emisyon bantlarında en yüksek FL yoğunluğunu sergilediği ve saf ZnO nanotellere kıyasla 20 kat daha yüksek fotojenlenmiş elektron-boşluk çifti üretim verimliliği üretmiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları, 5 mM TiO2 kaplı ZnO nanotellerin fotovoltaik uygulamalar için alternatif bir fotodetektör malzemesi sağlayabileceğini göstermektedir. Ayrıca düşük konsantrasyonda üretilen TiO2 kaplı ZnO heteroyapıların üretiminin kolaylığı, düşük maliyeti ve yüksek verimliliği sayesinde fotovoltaik cihazlar için heteroyapılı metal oksit yarı iletkenlerin alternatif bir seçenek olduğu söylenebilir.
In recent years, rapid developments in vehicle technologies, especially in the battery industry, have significantly accelerated the interest in studies of photovoltaic structures. It is envisioned that photovoltaic cells will be accessible to the final consumer by cheap, environmentally friendly, and easy methods. For this purpose, producing photovoltaic cells using metal oxide-based semiconductors, instead of ITO or FTO substrate materials, has been proposed as an alternative approach. In this thesis, the photovoltaic properties of TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires were produced for the first time in two stages by thermal oxidation and hydrolysis methods. The effect of increasing TiO2 coating thickness at increasing Ti concentrations (5 mM, 10 mM, and 25 mM) on photovoltaic properties compared to pure ZnO nanowires was investigated. In this context, morphological structures (scanning electron microscope (SEM)), structural properties (energy distribution spectrometry (EDS), x-ray diffractometer (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)), and optical values (photoluminescence (PL), diffuse reflectance (%DR)) and electrical (voltage-current (I-V)) behaviors of TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires were compared against pure ZnO nanowires and each other. It has been observed that TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires with 5 mM concentration have higher structural stability and aspect ratio than both 10 mM and 25 mM TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires. Structural stability and aspect ratio were directly affected by ZnO nanowire photoluminescence (PL) density and electrical properties. Although the intensity of the TiO2 peaks was low in the XRD analysis, the Ti:O content was increased at a ratio of 1:2 in the XPS analysis results. The presence of TiO2 on the surface was detected. In addition, increased TiO2 concentration was confirmed by EDS analysis. Moreover, when coated with 5mM TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires, it exhibited the highest FL intensity in the DLE emission bands. It also produced 20 times higher photogenerated electron-hole pair production efficiency than pure ZnO nanowires. This study shows that 5 mM TiO2-coated ZnO nanowires can potentially serve as a photodetector material for photovoltaic applications. In addition, the ease of production, low cost, and high efficiency of TiO2-coated ZnO heterostructures produced at low concentrations highlight the potential of heterostructured metal oxide semiconductors as an alternative option for photovoltaic devices.
