Kayseri ve çevresi, özellikle Yahyalı, Anadolu'nun dokuma atölyesi gibi çalışmış; çok uzun yıllar, çok farklı tekniklerde dokumalar üretmiştir. Türklerin; 1071 Malazgirt Savaşıyla, Anadolu'nun kapılarını açmasıyla birlikte, Yörük boyları, Yahyalı bölgesinde yurt seçmiştir ve beraberlerinde getirdikleri dokumacılık sanatını bu yörede devam ettirmişlerdir. Yahyalı halıları, geleneksel özelliklerini uzun yıllar devam ettirmiştir ve kendine has teknik ve desen özellikleriyle diğer halılardan hemen ayırt edilebilmektedir. Halılarda Türk-Gördes (kapalı/çift) düğüm tarzı kullanılmıştır. Halıların yüzey bölümleri genellikle iki sedef (ince ayak/ince su), bir bordür (kalın ayak/kalın su), iki adet sandık ve iç zeminden oluşmaktadır. Yörede 1950'li yıllara kadar genellikle ihtiyaç için dokunan halılar, bu tarihten sonra geçim kaynağı olduğu için piyasanın istediği renklerde ve talep ettiği desenlerle seri şekilde dokunmuştur. Ticari amaçla dokumacılık yapmaya başlayan yörenin halılarında hızlı bir yozlaşma olmuştur. Yahyalı halılarının geleneksel özelliklerine sahip seçkin örnekleri koleksiyonerler sayesinde korunarak günümüze kadar ulaşmıştır. Araştırma kapsamı olarak belirlenen Yahyalı yöresine gidilerek elinde dokuma bulunan ve dokuma yapan kişiler tespit edilmiş ve sözlü görüşme tekniğinde konuya ilişkin bilgiler alınmıştır. El halısı esnaflarının satış yaptıkları mağazalardaki Yahyalı halıları incelenmiş, esnaftan bilgiler derlenmiş ve buradaki Yahyalı halılarının fotoğrafları çekilmiştir. Yahyalı yöresinden Kayseri'ye göç eden ailelere görüşülmüş, bilgiler derlenmiş, ellerindeki Yahyalı halılarının fotoğrafları çekilmiştir. Yahyalı halıları ile ilgili kaynaklara ulaşılmış, bu kaynaklardan bilgiler toplanmıştır. Üç bölümden oluşan tezin birinci bölümünde Yahyalı yöresi ve halıları hakkında bilgilere yer verilmiş, ikinci bölümde 155 adet halı kataloğa konularak şablon ve motifleri çizilerek gözlem fişleri oluşturulmuştur. Yahyalı halılarında kullanılan motiflerin aslına sadık kalınarak ve modern renklerle yeni tasarımlar tezin üçüncü bölümünde yer almaktadır. Kayseri and its surroundings, especially Yahyalı, worked as Anatolia's weaving workshop; produced weavings in many different techniques for many years. Turks; With the Battle of Manzikert in 1071, with the opening of Anatolia's doors, the Yörük tribes chose the Yahyalı region as their homeland and continued the weaving art they brought with them in this region. Yahyalı carpets have maintained their traditional characteristics for many years and can be distinguished from other carpets with their unique technical and pattern features. Turkish-Gördes (closed/double) knot style is used in the carpets. The surface parts of the carpets generally consist of two mother-of-pearl (thin foot/thin water), one border (thick foot/thick water), two chests and inner floor. Carpets, which were generally woven for necessity in the region until the 1950s, were woven serially in the colors and patterns demanded by the market since it was a source of livelihood after this date. There has been a rapid deterioration in the carpets of the region, which started weaving for commercial purposes. Elite examples of Yahyalı carpets with traditional features have been preserved by collectors and have survived to the present day. By going to the Yahyalı region, which was determined as the scope of the research, the people who have weaving and weaving were determined and information on the subject was obtained in the oral interview technique. Those who have Yahyalı carpet collections in Turkey and abroad have been reached. Yahyalı carpets in the shops where hand-made carpet tradesmen sell were examined, information was compiled from the tradesmen and photographs of the Yahyalı carpets were taken here. Families who migrated from Yahyalı region to Kayseri were interviewed, information was compiled, and photographs of the Yahyalı carpets in their hands were taken. Sources related to Yahyalı carpets were reached and information was collected from these sources. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of three parts, information about the Yahyalı region and its carpets is given, in the second part, 155 carpets were put in the catalog and observation cards were created by drawing their templates and motifs.
