Yirminci yüzyıl, teknolojik gelişmelerin, iki büyük dünya savaşının, dünyayı etkileyen devrimlerin, yeni sözlerin ve üretimlerin yaşanması ve daha birçok gelişmeyi bünyesinde barındırması dolayısıyla insanlık tarihi açısından oldukça özel konuma sahiptir. Bu yenilikler sanatı, özelde de tiyatro sanatını yakından etkilemiştir. Kollektif bir sanat olan tiyatronun, siyasal amaçlara göre yeniden şekillendirilmesi, politik tiyatro düşüncesi ile vücut bulur. Hakim tiyatro düşüncesi olan Aristotelesçi anlayışa karşı gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmalar tiyatroya yeni soluk ve ivme kazandırır. Gerek oyun metinlerinin yapısına gerekse sahneleme tekniğine getirilen yenilikler, izleyicinin oyundan alacağı politik bilinç gözetilerek üretilir. Bu bilinci yaratmaya çalışan da Erwin Piscator' dur. Piscator' un politik tiyatro düşüncesi ülkemiz tiyatro alanında da karşılık bulur. Bu karşılık, Nazım Hikmet'in tiyatro eserlerinde incelenir. Ürettikleri ile dünya çapında yankı uyandıran ve yirminci yüzyılın en önemli aydınlarından olan Nazım Hikmet hakkında tartışmalar halen yaşansa da ülkemiz tiyatrosundaki yeri sarsılmazdır. İki bölümden oluşan çalışmanın birinci bölümünde, Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nın Avrupa'daki sosyal siyasal yankıları, politik tiyatronun ortaya çıkışı, kaynakları ve özellikleri ile Marksizm'in sanata olan etkileri incelenirken, ikinci bölümde politik tiyatro düşüncesinin toplumcu gerçekçi bir yazar olan Nazım Hikmet oyunlarına etkileri kapsamlı olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Owing to the fact that the twentieth century hosts technological developments, two great world wars, revolutions that affect the whole world, new words and productions experienced and many other developments in its body, it has a fairly special position in terms of the history of humanity. These innovations have affected the art closely, the art of theatre specifically as well. The reshaping of theatre, which is a collective art, according to political aims comes into existence by the idea of political theatre. These studies accomplished against Aristotelian understanding, which is a dominant theatrical thought, give a new inspiration and acceleration to theatre. Innovations brought both into the structure of devised theatre and acting technique are produced through pursuing politicial consiousness that the spectators take from the play. And it's Erwin Piscator who tried hard to create this consciousness. Priorities mentioned by Piscator correspond to the theatrical environment in our country as well. This consideration is examined in the theatrical works of Nazım Hikmet. Although there have been many disputes on Nazım Hikmet who created reactions all over the world by the works he produced and also who was one of the most prominent intellectuals of the twentieth century, his position in our country's theatrical environment is unshakable. In the first part of the study which is comprised of two parts except introduction and conclusion; social and political echoes of the First World War in Europe, emergence of political theatre, its sources and features and effects of Marxizm on art are examined. In the second part, the effects of the idea of political theatre on Nazım Hikmet's (a socialist and realist writer) plays are evaluated comprehensively.
