Türk-İslam mimarisinde Ma'kıli yazı on yüzyıla yakın zamandır özellikle dış mekânlarda kullanılmış bir yazı türüdür. Ma'kıli yazı, ilk olarak Gazneliler döneminde görülmüş, diğer devletler arasında taşınarak mimari eserlerin dış mekanlarını süslemek için kullanılmıştır. Bu yazı türü, bir süsleme aracı olmasının yanı sıra kullanılan sembolik anlatı diliyle de izleyicilerine bir mesaj iletimi sağlamaktadır. Ma'kıli yazıda kullanılan renk ve formları ile yazı ve mimari adeta bütünleşmiş Türk-İslam mimarisinin temel unsurlarından bir olmuştur. Yazının mekâna kattığı sembolik ve uhrevi anlam ile mekân anlamlandırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu tezin amacı, Ma'kıli yazının dış mekân tasarımına olan etkilerini Emir Timur döneminde inşa edilen Bibi Hanım Camisi'ndeki Ma'kıli yazı tasarımları özelinde araştırmaktır. Ma'qili script is a type of writing that has been used for nearly ten centuries in Turkish-Islamic architecture especially in exterior designs. It was first seen in the period of the Ghaznavids and was used to decorate the outdoor of architectural works by being transported between other states. In addition to being a decoration tool, this type of writing also provides a message to its audience with the symbolic narrative language used. The fact that the script and architecture are almost united thanks to the colours, forms and shapes used in Ma'qili, and it has become one the basic elements of Turkish-Islamic architecture. With the symbolic and spiritual meaning provided by Ma'qili script, the architectural space has been tried to be given meaning. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of Ma'qili script on the perception of outdoor space by analysing the Ma'qili script designs used in the Bibi Khanym Mosque which was constructed in the time of Amir Timur. At the same time, it seeks answers to some of the problems that are thought to be about the definition and origin of this type of script. It is thought that Ma'qili script, which has geometric form, can make serious contributions to the designs of outdoor space in modern architecture with today's design concept.
