Örtünme ihtiyacı insanlık tarihinin başlangıcından beri var olmuştur. Zamanla tekstil üretmeyi başaran insanın kullandığı ürünleri günümüze kadar taşıyamaması, tekstil malzemesinin dayanıksız olması nedeniyle, kaynak konusunda yetersizlikle sonuçlanmıştır. Tarihi çağlardaki giyim örneklerine çoğunlukla taş veya levha gibi yüzeylere resmedilen figürler sayesinde ulaşılabilmektedir. Bu figürler üzerindeki giysilerin çoğunda, bugün tanımlamaya çalıştığımız kumaş manipülasyon tekniklerinin uygulandığı anlaşılmaktadır. Estetik algının ve süslenme ihtiyacının tarihi çağlardan beri varlığı da ortadadır. İnsanlık tarihi yaşamı daha kolay hale getirebilmek adına devrimler geliştirmiştir. Giysi tasarım süreçlerinde endüstri devriminden günümüze kumaş yüzeyine farklı amaç ve formlarda birçok teknik uygulanarak sanat ve modanın birlikteliği güçlendirilmiştir. Kumaş manipülasyonu, kumaş yüzeyine farklı teknikler uygulayarak iki boyutlu yüzeyde üçüncü boyutun oluşmasını sağlamaktadır. Günümüz teknolojinin gelişmesi, teknik yöntemlerin ve malzeme çeşitliliğinin yenilenmesine ortam hazırlamaktadır. Geleneksel yöntemler ile kumaş yüzeyine müdahale sonrası manipüle edilmesi tasarım noktasında estetik yönden güçlü ürünler oluşmasına olanak sağlamaktadır. Moda Tasarımcılarının yenilikçi tasarımları incelendiğinde uyguladıkları teknikler sayesinde kavramsal yönden güçlendirilmiş, merak uyandıran, estetik algının giysi tasarımlarına yansıtıldığı söylenebilir. Konusu "21. Yüzyılda Kumaş Manipülasyon Teknikleri ve Avangard Kadın Giysi Modasına Yansımaları" olan Sanatta Yeterlik tezinin amacı hem kavramsal hem de teknik olarak karşı tarafa geçirilmesi düşünülmüş modada ki Avangard tavrı, moda tasarımcı/sanatçı örnekleriyle derleyerek, kumaş manipülasyon teknikleri ile deneysel tasarımlar oluşturmaktır. The need for covering has existed since the beginning of human history. The fact that the people who succeeded in producing textiles in time could not carry the products they use to the present day resulted in insufficient resources due to the perishability of the textile material. Clothing samples in historical times can be reached mostly thanks to the figures depicted on surfaces such as stones or plates. It is understood that the fabric manipulation techniques that we are trying to describe today were applied on most of the clothes on these figures. The existence of aesthetic perception and the need for adornment has also been evident since historical times. Humanity has developed revolutions throughout its history in order to make life easier. The unity of art and fashion has been strengthened by applying many techniques with different purposes and forms to the fabric surface in the garment design processes from the industrial revolution to the present. Fabric manipulation is to create a third dimension on a two-dimensional surface by applying different techniques to the fabric surface. The development of today's technology provides an environment for the renewal of technical methods and material diversity. Manipulating the fabric after the intervention on the fabric surface with traditional methods allows the creation of aesthetically strong products at the design point. When the innovative designs of Fashion Designers are examined, it can be said that the aesthetic perception, which is conceptually strengthened and arousing curiosity, is reflected in the clothing designs thanks to the techniques they apply. The aim of the Proficiency in Art thesis, whose subject is "Fabric Manipulation Techniques in the 21st Century and Its Reflections to Avant-Garde Women's Clothing Fashion" is to create experimental designs with fabric manipulation techniques by compiling the avant-garde attitude in fashion, which is thought to be passed to the opposite side, both conceptually and technically.
