Arap edebiyatı, dünyadaki diğer edebiyat türleri gibi, bir insan ürünüdür. Edebiyat, duygu ve düşüncelerin şiir veya düzyazı gibi yazılı yöntemlerle ifade edilme biçimidir. Bu düzyazı bir hikaye, bir roman ya da diğer edebi bir tür olabilmektedir. Arap edebiyatı doğduğu ortam ve geçirdiği sürecin izlerini taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma h. IV. yy edebi hayatına ışık tutmaktadır. Çünkü bu yüzyıl, çeşitli kültürel çoğulculuk, çoklu mezhepler, dini ve felsefi diyaloglarla ön plana çıkmıştır. Aynı şekilde bu yüzyılda Arap edebiyatında büyük bir edebiyat hareketinin ortaya çıkmasına yol açan siyasi bölünmeler ve ekonomik krizler yaşanmıştır. Çalışmada ele alınan h. IV. yy, siyasi, ekonomik ve sosyal düzeyde pek çok önemli olay açısından zengin bir dönemdir. Çalışma, ekonomik krizlerin, siyasi ve toplumsal bölünmelerin Arap edebiyatına ait edebi eserler ve konuları üzerindeki etkilerinin boyutunu göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak Arap edebiyatı ile ortaya çıktığı çevre arasında karşılıklı etkileşime dayanan bir ilişki bulunmaktadır.
