Üniversite kampusu planlamalarında en önemli konulardan biri, kampus yerleşim sisteminin seçimidir. Bu çalışmada; kampus yerleşim sistemleri araştırılarak, kentsel tasarım ile arasındaki ilişki ortaya konulmakta ve sistem seçiminin önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Kampus planlamalarında sistem seçiminin nasıl yapılması gerektiği, tasarım ve fiziksel planlama sürecine hangi yönlerden katıldığı ve nasıl etkilediği araştırılmıştır. Yöntem olarak, öncelikle konunun daha iyi anlaşılması için üniversite ve kampus kavramları üzerinde durulmuş, kısa tarihçeleri, içerikleri ve planlama süreçleri hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Yerleşim sistemleri, örnekler verilerek bir sınıflamaya gidilmiş, böylece her sistem temel özellikleri ve sağladıkları imkanlar yönünden ortaya konulmuştur. Belirlenen amaca yönelik olarak, üniversite kampusları yerleşim sistemleri önce ayrı ayrı ele alınmış, daha sonra aralarındaki karşılıklı ilişki ve etkileşime dikkat çekilmeye çalışılmıştır. Buradan hareketle, kampus yerleşim sistemi seçiminin, yapılan her türlü ön çalışma ve analiz sonuçlarına bağlı olarak, saptanan hedefler ve eldeki imkanlar da göz önünde bulundurularak yapılması gereği ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu şekilde seçilecek olan yerleşim sistemi, fiziksel planlama aşamasında kampus işlevlerinin organizasyonunda, kentle ve yakın çevresi ile kuracağı ilişkinin niteliğinde, belirlenen hedeflere bağlı olarak büyüme ve gelişme ihtiyacının ne şekilde karşılanacağında, mimarinin seçiminde, yapı yoğunluğunun belirlenmesinde, yerleşimin arazi ile uyumunda kentsel tasarım ilkeleri bağlamında ve bazı diğer konularda rol oynayacaktır. Görülüyor ki, yerleşim sistemlerinin iyi tanınması, fiziksel planlama ve kentsel tasarım ile etkileşiminin saptanması, sahip oldukları özellikler ve kullanım olanakları açısından hangi koşullarda tercih edilmesi gerektiğinin bilinmesi, yapılacak planlama ve tasarımın bugünkü ve gelecekteki başarısı için önem taşımaktadır. Sonuç olarak; kampus planlamaları ve tasarımında yerleşim sisteminin seçimi, tasarım süreci kadar önemli ve etkisi ise, dolaylı ya da dolaysız olarak oldukça büyük olan bir eylemdir. One of the most significant topic of the University Campus Planning process in the choice of the campus layout system. At this project, the purposes of the project are to search the campus layout systems, pointing out their relation between urban design and stressing out the importance of system selection. Therefore, the type of system selection in campus layout planning, its viewpoints of participation to the physical planning process and also the influences have been researched. In order to assure a better understanding of the subject, the main method involves the university and campus concepts, providing informations about their short history, contents and planning processes. Furthermore, some examples about the layout systems have been given and a classification was made, thus demonstrating each system from their viewpoints of examples and opportunities they provide. Due to the specified purpose, the layout system of university campuses as well as the university planning process has been researched separately and a mutual relation and interaction between those aspects have been determined. From these viewpoints, it is obvious that the choice of a campus layout system should be made in consideration of the targets defined and available opportunities in accordance with any type of pre study and analysis process. A layout system that will be selected by this means will play an important role in other many subjects such as the functional organization of the campus at the physical planning stage, the quality of its relation to be established between the urban and the close environment, means of meeting its expansion and development needs depending to the targets defined as well as the structural and architectural determination, the land proportion and context of urban design principles. As a master of fact, factors such as sufficient knowledge about layout systems, determination of its interaction with physical planning and urban design, knowledge about the best usage conditions regarding its features and opportunities and the conditions of preference is quite significant for the present and future success of the planning and design to be made. Consequently, the selection of layout system in campus planning and design processes is as important as design process and an action whose influence is directly or indirectly fairly important.
