Bu tez, tarihi çevrelerde meydana gelen mekansal değişimin neden olduğu problemlerin tanımlanması, mekansal ve çevresel analizlerin, değerlendirmelerin yapılması yoluyla, olumsuz sonuçların giderilmesi, bu çevrelerin çekicilik ve canlılığının sağlanması ve sürdürülebilirliğine yönelik yeniden düzenleme ilkelerinin geliştirilebilmesi amacıyla ele alınmıştır. 2000'li yıllarda tartışılan ve gündemde olan sürdürülebilirlik olgusu, tarihsel gelişimi içerisinde, tarihi çevrelerin korunması konusuna yeni yaklaşımlar ve roller yüklemiştir. Bu yeni yaklaşımlarla, kent kimliğinin ve kent kimliğini oluşturan tarihi çevrelerin korunması da özel bir önem kazanmıştır. Uygulamalara yol gösterici olabilecek değerler sistemine, sürdürülebilirlik olgusuyla önemi artan yeni kavramların taşınması, kentsel kimliğin ve tarihi çevrelerin sürdürülebilirliğine de doğrudan katkı sağlayıcıdır. Tanımlanan değişim ve problemlerin çoğunun yaşandığı, aynı zamanda da coğrafi konumu ve taşıdığı kültürel, tarihsel değerler nedeniyle, Isparta eski kent merkezinde yer alan Çayboyu Caddesi ve çevresi, çalışmanın örnek alanı olarak seçilmiştir. The thesis, by defining the problems caused by spatial change in the historical environments, by spatial and environmental analyzing and evaluating aims at correcting negative consequences, at achieving attraction and liveliness of these environments and at developing sustainability related reconstruction principles. In its historical development the phenomenon of sustainability that was debated in 2000s and is still contemporary has attributed new approaches and roles to the topic of the conservation of historical environments. Besides with these new approaches, the conservation of city identity and the historical environments that constitute this identity has attained special importance. The mounting of new concepts that attained importance with the sustainability phenomenon into the value systems that are guiding for the applications, are direct contributors to the sustainability of city identity and historical environments. Located in the city center of old-Isparta, The Çayboyu Street and its environment, where most of the defined changes and problems have been experienced and at the same time because of the its geographic location and its cultural and historical values, was chosen as the case study of the thesis.
