dc.description The study was conducted to determine the most effective traps for capturing Epicometis hirta (Coleoptera:Scarabaeidae), a pest of pear and plum trees in Yalvaç district of Isparta province in 2009. In this study blue plastic traps (Sticky trap, funnel plus water and large pan plus water) and also an atractant containing cinnamyl alcohol and trans-anethol, dipropylene glycol and 2-propanol, 1,1-oxybis as commertial prepreation were used. Study was carried out in both pear and plum orchards in four different sellected sites. With a total number of 420 sampled beetles, most individuals were captured in third pear orchard site followed by fourth pear orchard site with 247 beetles. The highest number of beetles were captured by the blue funnel water traps with atractant in the pear orchards. With a total number of 137 sampled beetles, most individuals were captured in the fourth plum orchard site followed by fourth plum orchard site with 57 beetles. In the plum orchards the highest number of beetles were captured by the blue funnel plus water traps with atractant. The sexual index were found in the third and fourth pear orchard sites as 0,47 and 0,39 and in the fourth and second plum orchard sites 0,44 and 0,31, respectively. It was supposed that the number of beetles captured in pear and plum orcards depends on the age of trees and also being near uncultivated or cereal growing areas. In conclusion, we propose that use of a blue funnel trap plus water together with an attractant is an effective biotechnical method for controlling harmful species of various trees when chemicals could be applied during blooming period. Keywords: Epicometis Hirta, Isparta, Yalvaç, Biotechnical Method, Atractant, Blue Funnel
