dc.description Heating of wood has been used for the purpose of drying and modifying undesirable properties of wood since ancient times. Today heat treatment is used in industrial scale for the same purposes. In this study, the technological (physical and mechanical) properties of spruce wood which is heat-treated using “ThermoWood” process were investigated. This wood species was heated at 190ºC, 90 minutes and 212ºC, 120 minutes with “ThermoWood” process. Heat treated samples were compared with their control (untreated) groups. As physical properties; oven-dry density, air-dry density, shrinkage and swelling, as mechanical properties; bending strength, modulus of elasticity in bending and compression strength parallel to the grain were determined and its change ratios were calculated comparing with control groups. As a result when heat treated samples were compared its own control groups it was found that different changes ratios for both parameters. While decrease rates of volumetric shrinkage, volumetric, swelling, oven-dry density, air-dry density, compression strength, bending strength and modulus of elasticity at 190ºC temperature and 90 minutes were found % 22.61, % 26.61, % 7.46, % 6.26, % 12.48, % 18.20, % 14.46, respectively; for 212ºC temperature and 120 minutes, decrease rates were obtained % 38.66, % 31.36, % 14.77, % 11.24, %16.16, % 40.65, % 28, respectively.
