Tarihi kentsel çevreler, zaman içerisinde planlama ve koruma eksikliğinden yıpranmanın ve yok olmanın eşiğindedirler. Tarihi çevreler bize tarihi geçmişimizi ve kültürümüzü hatırlatan ve yaşatan en önemli değerlerimizdir ve değerlerimize sahip çıkarak gelecek nesillere aktarmak en büyük sorumluluğumuzdur. Ülkemizde koruma kavramı tek anıt korumasından başlamış ve günümüzde tarihi çevre kavramı korumasına kadar ulaşmıştır.Bu çalışmada, tarihi kent dokusu ile bilinen arkeolojik ve kentsel sit alanı olan Elazığ İli'nde bulunan Harput Mahallesi ve yakın çevresi çalışma kapsamında peyzaj mimarlığı açısından değerlendirilmiştir.Bu kapsamda, koruma kavramı ve önemi belirtilerek tarihi çevre ve tarihi çevre korumanın Türkiye’deki ve Dünya'daki tarihsel gelişimi, arkeolojik ve kentsel sit alanları ve planlama yaklaşımları üzerinde durularak koruma planlamasındaki sorunlar belirtilmiştir. Harput'un tarihi ve kültürel yapısı incelenerek tarihi yapıların ve çevresinin günümüzdeki durumu üzerinde durulmuştur. Harput ve yakın çevresi için sorunlar saptanarak, kamusal mekanlara yönelik kullanımlar ve birçok kültürün yer aldığı doğal, arkeolojik ve kentsel değerlere dair planlama, tasarım ve peyzaj özellikleri açısından öneriler getirilmiştir. Historical urban environments are on the brink of loss and destruction due to the lack of protection and planning. These historical environments are the most important values that reminds us our past and culture. Transferring these values, by conserving them, to the next generations is our biggest responsibility. In our country the term of conservation started with a single monument and now extended to historical environments.In this study, Harput district in Elazig, which is archaeological protected area, also known with its historical urban fabric and, its neighbourhood were evaluated in terms of landscape architecture.By this content, by mentioning the term of conservation and its importance, the progress of historical environments and their conservation in Turkey and in the World was stated. In addition, by emphasizing archaeological protected areas and planning approaches, the problems in conservation planning were pointed out.Analysing historical and cultural structure of Harput, the state of historical buildings and their neighbourhood today was remarked. Having determined the problems of Harput and its neighbourhood, many suggestions were made in terms of design and landscape qualities, planning for many natural, historical and urban values which include different cultures and utilization of public spheres.
