Bu tezin amacı, 1902 tarihli Şer'î Mahkeme kayıtları vasıtasıyla Denizli Şehrf nin sosyal, ekonomik ve dinî yaşamını incelemektir. 685 numaralı Şer' iye Sicil Defteri, Millî Kütüphane'de bulunan son mahkeme kaydıdır. Tezimizi özellikle 685 numaralı deftere, bununla beraber Denizli tarihi ile ilgili yerel kaynaklara ve genel tarih kitaplarına dayandırdık. Tez dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölüm Şer'î Mahkemelerin Osmanlı dönemindeki gelişmelerine ve şer'iye sicillerinin tarih çalışmalarındaki önemine değinmektedir. Ayrıca Denizli Şehrinin tanıtımına ve kısa tarihine temas edilmiştir. İkinci bölüm, şer'î mahkemede gerçek şahıslar hakkında kadı'nın verdiği hükümlerin İslâm Hukuku açısından çeşitlerine, bahsi geçen kayıtların hukukî önemlerine, hükmî şahıslar olarak ifade edilen vakıflara ve Denizli'deki vakıf müesseselere ayrılmıştır. Üçüncü bölüm, belgelerimiz çerçevesinde şer'iye mahkemelerinde uygulanmakta olan İslâm Yargılama Hukukuna ayrılmıştır. Dördüncü bölüm, Şer'î Mahkeme kayıtlarına göre XX. yüzyıl başlarında Denizli'nin sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve dinî boyutlarına ayrılmıştır. Özellikle, Müslümanlar ile gayr-i Müslimler arasındaki ilişki, eğitim faaliyetleri, dinî görevliler ve aile yapısı detaylarıyla incelenmiştir. The thesis aims at examining the social, economic and religious life in the city of Denizli, by means of the Religious Court Records of the city which dates from 1902. The Religious Court Register number 685, is the last court record found in the National Library of Turkey. We based our thesis on these records, in addition to this register, The local sources concerning with the history of Denizli and the general history books were consulted. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with the historical development of Religious Courts in the Ottoman Period and their significance in the studies of history. Moreover, the description of Denizli and its brief general history are dealt with to some extent. The second chapter is devoted to the examination of documents given by the Kadi in the religious courts about real persons, especially in terms of its kinds. The signifance of the mentioned records, the verdicts on the actions of the real persons taking place in our documents, the vakif institutions in Denizli are also investigated. The third chapter deals with the examination of documents in terms of judical methodolocial practices adopted in the religious courts and how they are taken into account in the our documents. The fourth chapter is devoted to the social, cultural, economical and religious life in Denizli in the xxth century according to the religious court registers. In particular the social and religious life of the city, relations between the Muslim and Non-Muslims, educational activities, religious officers and the structure of the family were inspected in detail.
