Dünyada küreselleşme sürecinin hızlanması ile beraber, ekonomik hayatta söz sahibi olan gelişmiş ülkeler yeni pazarlara ulaşabilmek için doğrudan yabancı yatırım konusuna daha istekli davranmışlardır. Gelişmiş ülkelerin yanında gelişmekte olan ülkeler de bu sürece dahil olmaya başlamışlardır. Dünyada turizm sektörünün yapısı ve önemi nedeniyle ekonomilerini bu yönde güçlendirmeye çalışmışlardır. Çalışmada, bu kapsamda önce doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu nedenle çalışmada doğrudan yabancı yatımların tanımı, amacı, türleri, ev sahibi ülke üzerine etkileri ve yabancı sermayenin ülkeye gelmesini etkileyen faktörler incelenmiştir. Dünyada ve Türkiye'deki yabancı sermaye yatırımlarının genel durumu araştırılmış, özellikle 1980 sonrası dönemde Türkiye'de gerçekleşen yabancı sermaye yatırımlarının sektörlere ve ülkelere göre dağılımları incelenmiştir ve Türkiye'de yatırım ortamını iyileştirme çalışmalarına değinilmiştir. Turizm sektörünün özellikleri ve kapsamı açıklandıktan sonra, sektörün Türkiye ekonomisindeki yeri ve önemi incelenmiş, Türkiye'deki turizm olgusu güçlü ve zayıf yönleri ile ele alınmış ve Türkiye'deki turizm sektöründe yabancı sermayeye duyulan ihtiyaca değinilmiştir. Son olarak yatırımların nereye ve nasıl yapılması gerektiğini belirleyen Eklektik Paradigma olgusu incelenerek, bu paradigma çerçevesinde Türkiye'de turizm sektörüne yönelik yatırımlara ilişkin öneriler sunulmuştur. Parallel to the rapid process in globalization all around the world, the developed countries ruling the economy have become more eager in foreign direct investment to reach new markets. Besides the developed countries, the developing countries have begun to be involved in this process. The developing countries have tried to improve their economies due to the structure and importance of tourism sector around the world. This study aims to investigate the foreign direct investment initially within this frame. Hence, the foreign direct investment is explored in terms of definition, objectives, types, its effects on the hosting country and the factors that determine its formation in a country. After the general situation of foreign direct investment is explained, the distribution of foreign direct investment realized in Turkey after 1980s is investigated in terms of sectors and countries; and attempts were mentioned to improve the investment milieu in Turkey. After the properties and extent of the tourism sector are explained, its role and significance on the economy of Turkey is explored, the concept of tourism in Turkey is discussed on its strong and weak aspects, and the need for foreign investment in tourism sector in Turkey is mentioned. Finally, the phenomenon of eclectic paradigm that determines the direction and type of the investment is explored and proposals related to the investments in the tourism sector in Turkey are presented.
