XIV. Yüzyılda yaşamış önemli bir İslam filozofu olan İbn Haldun, (1332-1406) tarih felsefesinin kurucusu ve sosyolojinin de öncüsü olarak kabul edilir. Çok yönlü bir filozof olarak birçok ilimde farklı görüşler öne sürmüş ve nispeten yaşadığı asrın geleneksel kalıplarının dışına çıkmayı başarabilmiş olan İbn Haldun'un eğitim alanında da günümüzde de halen güncelliğini koruyan önemli ve ilginç görüşleri vardır. Bizim bu çalışmadaki amacımız, İbn Haldun'un eğitim görüşlerinde İslam filozoflarından ne derece etkilendiğini ortaya koymak ve bu görüşleri günümüz eğitim akımlarıyla mukayese ederek bu bilgiler ışığında onun eğitim felsefesinin bir değerlendirmesini yapmaktır. Çalışmada ilk önce, İbn Haldun'un Mukaddime adlı eserinde geçen eğitime dair görüşleri esas alınarak onun toplum, ekonomi, toplumsal değişme konusundaki görüşlerine değinilmiş, daha sonra eğitim ilke ve metotlarıyla ilgili görüş ve önerileri analiz edilmiştir. Bunu yaparken günümüz eğitimcilerinin görüşlerine de yer verilmiş, bu incelemelerden hareketle eğitime katkıda bulunacak yorum ve değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. İbn Haldun, medeniyet'in gelişmesini ekonomik alandaki gelişmelere bağlamış, bu gelişmenin eğitim, sanat ve toplumsal hayata da etki ederek onları geliştirdiğini düşünmüştür. Onun eğitimde baskıcı ve sert davranışlar yerine ılımlı bir yaklaşımı tercih etmesi de günümüz eğitim anlayışını yansıtan görüşleri arasındadır. Ibn Haldun, (1332-1406) is generally accepted as a founder of the philosophy of history and one of the pioneer of the sociology. As a many-sided philosophy er, he suggested different ideas in various science and he succeed in creating different visions apart from the traditional age that he was in. Ibn Haldun's interesting ideas' still keep its currency especially in education. Our aim in this study, to reveal how he was affected from other Islamic philosophers in views of education and by comparing this ideas with today's educational movements, and in the view of this knowledge to make an education about his educational philosophy. Firstly, in this study his ideas about social, economy, social change subjects based on his educational ideas in his work Mukaddime were mentioned. Then his views and suggestions about educational principles and methods were analyzed. While doing this, today's pedogogists' views have been included. Through this conceptual analyses, some interpretations and evaluations which will contribute education in different sides have been made. İbn Haldun combined development of civilization with the development of economy and he had thought that this development would improve themselves by effectting education, art and social life. Instead of oppressive and hard behaviours in education, he prefers modarate approach and that is among the views that reflects today's understanding of education.
