Türkiye'de örgün eğitimde din eğitimine yer verilmesi uzun yıllardır tartışma konusu olarak güncelliğini korumaktadır. Halbuki din eğitiminin ülkemizde uzun sayılabilecek bir tecrübesi olmasına karşın bu tartışmaların bilimsel açıdan ele alınmadığı için çözüme yönelik bir adım da atılamamıştır. Bu nedenle Din eğitiminin teorik temellerinin belirlenmesi, açıklığa kavuşması ve din eğitimi tartışmalarının sağlıklı bir zeminde yapılabilmesi önemlidir. Din eğitiminin en önemli teorik temellerinden biri toplumsal temeldir. Araştırmamızın amacını oluşturan "Din eğitiminin toplumsal fonksiyonları nelerdir?" sorusuna cevap aradığımız çalışmamızda model aldığımız kuram, Yapısal fonksiyonel yaklaşımdır. Bu yaklaşıma göre kurumlar toplumda bir işlev gördüğü ve toplumsal ihtiyaçları karşıladığı sürece varlıklarını devam ettirmektedirler. Din, toplumsal kurumlar içinde varlığını sürekli devam ettirmektedir. Ülkemizde din, milli birlik ve beraberliğin sağlanıp korunmasında, toplumsal barışa katkı sağlamada, sosyal ahlak ve değerlerin verilmesinde en önemli unsur olarak durmaktadır. Din eğitimi dinin bu fonksiyonlarını sağlıklı şekilde yerine getirmesi açısında çok önemli bir görev yapmaktadır. Bu noktadan hareketle din eğitimi ülkemizde çok önemli fonksiyonlar yerine getirdiği için hem örgün eğitim, hem de yaygın eğitim kurumları içinde yerini bulmaktadır. Araştırmamız din eğitiminin gerekliliğinin toplumsal açıdan önemine bilimsel açıdan yaklaşarak kamuoyunda yaşanan din eğitimi tartışmalarına yeni bir bakış açısı getirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Religious Education in Turkey for many years as a subject of discussion to date selected. Religion also can be considered a long experience in education has occurred in our country but also a fact that science is very new ways. Therefore determine the theoretical basis of religion education, and carries an obligation to clarify. The theoretical basis of our research as the social foundation of religious education are discussed. The aim of our research constitutes "the social function of religious education are?" We seek answers to questions we receive in our study model theory, structural-functional approach. According to this approach is a function in society and social institutions to meet these needs have been having long survive. Constant presence of religion in public institutions continues. Religion in our country's national unity and the protection can be provided, in contributing to social peace, social ethics and values as the most important factor in granting still stands before us. This function of religion in religious education in a healthy way to fulfill a task is very important respect. Starting from this point of religious education in our country has fulfilled many important functions for both general education and formal education institutions in takes place. Our investigation of the necessity of religious education in terms of social significance to the scientific approach to religious education experienced by the public is intended to provide an opening to discuss.
