The introduction part deals with the history, geography and socio-economic structure of Tarsus and general information about Çamalan and Kaburgediği- villages inhabited by Tahtacılar in Tarsus district, with a brief information about Tahtacılar across Turkey. Moreover, it deals provides the reader with the influence of the ancient Turkic beliefs on Tahtacılar. The first part deals with the religious and social rituals observed by Tahtacılar in Tarsus while the second part deals with the transition periods of life such as birth, marriage and death. In addition, the third part deals with the folk medicine and the fourth part deals with the common folk beliefs. The topics in this study are based on interviews and observation using the reference books related to the topic. Keywords: Tarsus, Tahtacılar, Folk Beliefs, Religious rituals. |
