Bu tezin amacı, Christopher Durang'ın Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You adlı tiyatro eserinde ele aldığı din öğretilerinin karakterler üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda, öncelikle yazarın görüşleri alınmış, daha sonra başta dinî kaynaklar olmak üzere farklı kaynaklara dayanarak oyunda geçen çeşitli konular üzerine yorumlar yapılmıştır. Christopher Durang, kendisinin aldığı din eğitiminden yola çıkarak Katolik kilisesinin bazı dinî öğretilerinin insan psikolojisi üzerinde olumsuz etkilere sebep olduğunu, kimi öğretilerin komik olduğunu ve bilimsellikle ilgisi olmadığını ve nihayetinde bireyler üzerinde olumsuz etkilere sebep olduğunu, hatta insanın bu durumda inancını bile kaybedebileceğini belirtmektedir. Bu çalışma, Hıristiyanlığın en büyük kollarından olan Katolik mezhebini ve hiçbir kitleyi doğrudan ya da dolaylı olarak hedef almamaktadır. Çalışmada, bu mezhebin daha önce mensubu olan Amerikalı oyun yazarı Christopher Durang'in, eğlenceli oyunu yoluyla bazı öğretilerin karakterler üzerinde olumsuz etkilere sebep olabileceği ve insanlara psikolojik destek olmaktan ziyade onları ruhsal sorunların içine atabileceği hususlarını işlediği gösterilmek istenmiştir. The objective of this paper is to reveal the impacts of catechism of Catholic Church on the characters of Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You, written by Christopher Durang. For this purpose, we have turned to ideas of the playwright first and then we have made some comments on religion and some other subjects mentioned in the play. Christopher Durang alleges that the catechism, at least some of the teachings of Catholic Church can yield negative results on the individuals' psychology; those teachings are funny and not empirical and even man can lose his faith in certain situations. This paper does not aim at insulting the Catholic religion; as well as Catholic religion, no other religious group is addressed, either. Through the funny play of the American playwright Christopher Durang, one of the former-followers of the religion, this paper also aims to show that the catechism can have negative effects on the individuals and may even cause psychological in participation of these people in the personal communion.
