Sosyoloji tarihinde hâkim olan yöntem sorununa yönelik pozitivist anlayış belirleyici rol oynamıştır. Bu anlayışa eleştirel bir tavırla yaklaşan Alman sosyoloji geleneği, tarihe ve topluma yönelen kültür bilimlerin yöntemleri ile doğa bilimlerinin yöntemlerinin tamamen aynı olamayacağını vurgulamıştır. Bu geleneğe bağlı olan Max Weber, bireyin toplumsal eylemlerini anlamaya yönelik sosyolojik yöntem olmasını gerektiğini savunmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda Weber çalışmalarında, toplumsal olayların anlaşılabilir olması için “ideal tip” yöntemini geliştirmiştir.Araştırmada, Weber'in “Protestan Ahlakı” ve “Kapitalizm” ideal tiplerinden hareketle, onun toplumsal ve tarihsel temele dayalı din ve ekonomi ilişkisine dair düşünceleri ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Din olgusunun özünden çok sosyolojik boyutu ile ilgilenen Weber, dini olayları nedensellik bağı ile anlama çabasında olmuştur. Buna bağlı olarak toplumsal olaylar üzerindeki birçok faktör içinden din faktörü ile olan ilişkisine yoğunlaşmıştır. Anlamacı sosyolojisini din sosyolojisinde uygulamak üzere karşılaştırmalı analiz gerçekleştiren Weber'e göre Protestanlığın sahip olduğu görüşler, kapitalizmin ortaya çıkmasına ve gelişmesine imkân sağlamıştır. Positivist approach has played a decisive role towards the method problem which is dominant in the sociology through its history. The tradition of German sociology that approaches to this attitude in a critical way emphasizes that the methods of cultural sciences directed to history and society cannot be exactly the same as the methods of natural sciences. Max Weber, who is loyal to this tradition, claims that there must be a sociological method related to understand the social behaviours of a person. In this direction, in his works, Weber has developed the “Ideal Type” method for the sociological events to be understood.The study tries to reveal the thoughts of Weber about the relationship between the religion and the economics based on his sociological and historical opinions from his “Protestant Ethic" and "capitalism" ideal type point of view. Weber, who deals with the sociological dimension of religion rather than its core, has been in an effort to understand the religious events with the causal relation. Accordingly, he has focused on the religious factor through many factors about sociological events. According to Weber, who has done a comparative analysis in order to apply hermeneutical sociology in the sociology of religion, the opinions that Protestantism have gave way to the emergence and development of Capitalism.
