Dış ticaret, gelişmekte olan ülkeler için büyümenin en önemli faktörlerinden biridir. Gelişen ülkeler ve büyüyen ekonomi olmasından dolayı dış ticaretin ekonomik büyümeye etkisini incelemek gerekir. Çalışmanın konusu; dış ticaretin ekonomik büyümeye etkisini, Türkiye açısından 1998.Q1-2013.Q4 dönemini içermektedir.İhracat ve ithalat mı büyümeyi etkilemekte yoksa büyüme mi dış ticareti etkilemekte olduğu, dış ticaretin ekonomik büyümeye etkisinin nedensellik ilişkisinin olup olmadığı bu çalışmada olduğu gibi, iktisadi literatürde de tartışma konusu olmuştur ve hâlen de tartışılan konular arasındadır.Bu çalışmada; ihracat ve ithalat bağımsız değişkenler ve GSYİH bağımlı değişken olarak belirlenmiş ve bu değişkenlerin serileri arasında ilişki olup olmadığını tespit edebilmek için ilk olarak birim kök testleri yapılmıştır. Serilerin durağanlık derecelerini belirleyebilmek için ise Augmented Dickey-Fuller birim kök testi kullanılmıştır. Birinci farklarında durağanlaşan serilere, Granger nedensellik testi yapılmıştır.Sonuç olarak; ihracattan GSYİH’ye doğru tek yönlü, ithalattan GSYİH’ye doğru çift yönlü Granger nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmuştur. The importance of foreign trade has been growing for most countries recently. Foreign trade is particularly important for developing countries as trade can be an engine of growth. Main subject of this study is to examine the effect of foreign trade on growth in Turkey during the period between 1998Q1 and 2013Q4.In recent years it has been an important issue to analyse whether exports and imports affect growth or growth affects foreign in economic literature. Therefore, this study aims at examining the direction of the relation between foreign trade and growth.The value of exports and imports are determined as independent variables and GDP is considered as the dependent variable in this study. Firstly, unit roots tests have been applied in order to examine causality between the trade and growth series we examine. Secondly, Augmented Dickey Fuller unit root test has been used to determine stationary degrees of the series. It is observed that the first differences of the series are stationary, therefore Granger causality test is applied for this series. In sum, our results indicate that there is a uni-directional causality running from exports to GDP. We also find that there is a bi-directional Granger causality between imports and GDP.
