Alevi–Bektaşi Edebiyatı'nın çeşitli türleri vardır. Bunlar: Nefes, devriye, destan, koşma, taşlama ve şathiyedir.Biz de Alevi-Bektaşi Edebiyat'ında bulunan ve icra edilen bu türlerin ne anlama geldiğini, bunlardan öne çıkan "nefes" türünü ve bu edebiyatta ne denli önemli olduğunu göstermek ve bununla beraber nefes geleneği temelinde Derviş Ruhullah'ın bir araya getirdiği ve Alevi-Bektaşi inanç ögelerini ve kurallarını bize sunan "Bektaşi Nefesleri" üzerine çalıştık.Nefes geleneğinin Alevi-Bektaşi Edebiyatı'nda önemini ortaya koyduktan sonra asıl çalışma alanımız olan Ruhullah'ın oluşturduğu "Bektaşi Nefesleri" antolojisini muhteva ve şekil yönünden ele almakla kalmayıp eserin içerisinde bulunan nefesleri oluşturan şahsiyetleri ve yaşadıkları yüzyıllara göre ele aldık.
