Bu çalışmada üçüncü Raşid Halife Hz. Osman'ın katledilmesiyle sonuçlanan siyasi olaylar hakkında müsteşriklerin görüşleri ele alınmıştır.Tezin esas amacı bu olaylara gayrimüslim tarihçilerin yaklaşımlarını ve bu konuda yaptıkları değerlendirmeleri ortaya koymaktır. Müsteşriklerin konuyla ilgili eserleri incelendiğinde devrin siyasi olaylarına kendilerine has tarzda yaklaştıkları görülmektedir. Müslüman tarihçilerden farklı olarak onlar, Müslümanların büyük değer verdikleri şahısları eleştirel ve analitik bir bakış açısıyla değerlendirmişler. İslam dünyasında ilk kez görülen iç karışıklık olaylarının detaylarını araştırırken bu olayların ortaya çıkış nedenlerini bulmaya çalışmışlar ve konuya sosyolojik açıdan da yaklaşmışlardır. Hatta bazıları dönemin gelişmelerini bedevi toplumsal yapı ve değişen şartlar çerçevesinde de ele almışlardır. Olayların Arap toplumunun toplumsal yapısından kaynaklandığını savunan yazarların yanı sıra bunu tarihin gidişatı olarak algılayanlar da olmuştur. Kısacası, Hz. Osman'ın katledilmesi ve ona yöneltilen eleştiriler hakkında Müslüman tarihçilerin ortaya koyduğu görüşlerinin aksine Batılı müsteşriklerin genellikle farklı ve bazen de benzer görüşler ortaya koydukları görülmüştür. In this thesis the views of the orientalists about the political events ended with the murdering of the third Rightly Guided Caliph Uthman has been examined. The main goal of this thesis is to uncover the approaches of the non-moslem historians as well as their making of evaluations on this subject. When their works on the subject have been examined, it is seen that they had approached the political events of the period in question in a particular way of their own. Contrary to the moslem historians, they evaluated the companians of the Prophet appriciated by the Muslims in a high level with a critical and analitical methods. While researching the details of the turmoil events that appeared in Islamic history fort he first time, these orientalists tried to find out the causes of these events. Thus, they also approached these events in a socialogical way.Even some of them evaluated the developments of the period within the structure of nomadic society and changed stituations. Some of them asserted that the events happened as a result of the different social structure of the Arab community, while some others perceived it being a process of the history. In short, it is seen that besides their similar views the Western orientalists presented, in general, different opinions and evaluations from those of the Muslim historians on the murder of Caliph Uthman and the accusations put forward against him.
