Kuzeybatı Pisidia Bölgesinde konumlanan Seleukeia Sidera ve Konane Antik Kentleri'nin, yerleşmelerinde savunma sistemlerinin (kuleler ve sur duvarları) detaylı bir şekilde araştırılması amaçlanmaktadır. Savunma sistemlerinin detaylı olarak incelenmesi sonucunda elde edilecek veriler yerleşim alanlarının ekonomik ve politik olarak sahip oldukları bölgenin sınırlarının yanı sıra, bu yerleşmelerin birbirleriyle ilişkilerinin anlaşılabilmesi bakımından önem taşımaktadır. Projenin kapsamı içerisinde yer alan Kuzeybatı Pisidia Bölgesi savunma sistemleri, Bölge'nin Hellenistik Dönem boyunca karşı karşıya kaldığı politik olaylar sonucunda polis ve askeri garnizon gibi yerleşim modellerinin aldığı şekillenmeyi değerlendirebilmeyi mümkün kılacaktır. Kuzeybatı Pisidia Bölgesinde Hellenistik Dönem'e ait sur duvarlarının ve gözetleme kulelerinin konum ve düzenleme bakımından karşılaştırılarak incelenmesinde öncelikle CBS (Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri) den yararlanılmıştır. Bu yöntem kullanılarak, Konane Antik Kenti (Kale Tepe) ve Seleukeia Sidera Antik Kenti yerleşimlerinin uydu görüntüleri üzerinde konum olarak haritalandırılması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Isparta İli ve İlçeleri Yüzey Araştırması kapsamında Konane Antik Kenti'nde detaylı olarak sur duvarlarının ve gözetleme kulelerinin ölçüleri alınıp çizimleri yapılmış ve haritalandırılmıştır. Bu veriler proje kapsamında kullanılarak, Seleukeia Sidera Antik Kenti yerleşmesinin değerlendirilmesinde bütünleşik sonuçlar elde edilmesi mümkün olmuştur. Kuzeybatı Pisidia Bölgesinde arkeolojik araştırmalar oldukça kısıtlıdır. Projenin özgün değeri, arkeolojik ve tarihsel belgeler dikkate alınarak bölgede kent ve kırsal yerleşmelerin savunma sistemlerinin değerlendirilmesine ve yanıtlanmayı bekleyen birçok soru için önemli ipuçları sağlayacak potansiyel taşımasıdır. Bu yönüyle, tez çalışması gerek araştırma alanı /coğrafyası gerekse de tarihi perspektifi ile özgün bir değer taşımaktadır. Bölgede savunma sistemlerine dönük bir çalışma bugüne dek yapılmamıştır. Tez, Hellenistik ve Roma Dönemlerinde Kuzeybatı Pisidia Bölgesi'nin kent savunma sistemleri ve polis - askeri garnizon niteliğindeki örnekleri irdeleyecektir. The aim of this project is a detailed examination of the defense systems (castles and fortresses) in the settlements of the Antique Cities of Seleukia Sidera and Conana, which are located in the Northwestern Pisidian Region. The data to be attained in the detailed examination of the defense systems bear importance in respect to the mutual relationship of these two settlements, as well as the borders of the region in economic and politic terms. The defense systems of the Northwestern Pisidian Region -the scope of the current project-will enable us to evaluate the evolution of the settlement models like polis and military garrison as a result of the political events encountered in the region throughout the Hellenistic Period. In the comparative examination of the fortresses and watchtowers dating back to the Hellenistic Period in the Northwestern Pisidian Region in terms of positioning and organization, we will firstly make use of the Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Using this method, mapping of the Antique City of Conana (Kale Tepe) and Antique City of Seleukia Sidera settlements will be carried out on die plates of satellite images. The dimensions of the fortresses and watchtowers located in the Antique City of Conana have already been determined in detail; they have been drawn and mapped within the scope of the Surface Survey of the Province of Isparta and its Districts. The data acquired in the mentioned study will be used in the current project, in which way it will be possible to attain integrated results. Archeological studies conducted in the Northwestern Pisidian Region are quite limited. The original value of the project lies in the fact that it bears an important potential in providing us with clues regarding the evaluation of the rural and urban defense systems used in the region and numerous other questions waiting to be answered, by taking into account the archeological and historical documents. In this sense, the survey project has an original value both for its scope of survey/geographical area and the historical perspective. Until now, no other study has been conducted in the region on the defense systems. The thesis is scrutinizing the urban defense systems and samples of polis-military garrisons of the Northwestern Pisidian Region during the Hellenistic and Roman Period.
